    Default Hi all!

    Hello everyone here,

Thought I would pop in here and introduce myself as I have been lurking the site as a non member for quite some time and just decided to join.

A bit about myself and what I do...

    Welding background

I have been in the welding/fabrication industry for approx. 12/13 yrs., Have my red seal in steel fab, C/B level welding tickets and CWB cert for FCAW/MCAW in multiple positions. All of those years have been spent at a great company building mining equip, heavy duty transportation equip, etc.

    Hobby background

I have a passion for making little cars with little motors go very fast. My fabrication training/experience is very helpful for this. To make small motors go fast we need 1 major item; A BIG TURBO! This means lots of fabrication (piping, turbo manifolds, intercoolers, etc.)

I currently have a miller syncrowave 180 SD to handle the welding at home in my garage, but I have really been interested in the power tig EX series and hope to see more info on the EXT series soon. I bought my syncro 6 or 7 years ago to learn on, and in the past I thought my only option to upgrade would be to drop a few thousand on a dynasty 200. I have now realized that there are better bangs for the buck and just recently decided (last week) to sell my syncrowave to buy either a powerTig 250EX or wait for the 250 EXT. I eventually would like to be watercooled as well, so I'm not sure if that would sway me to one machine or the other.

Mainly, I am looking at upgrading for 3 major things...

    1) Going from transformer to inverter- would be nice to shave off at least 150 lbs and have a 1/3 of the size of the sync. This is handy for me since I often take my tig machine to my work for side jobs. Not to mention the sync needs at least a 60A timed circuit to do anything decent in AC.

    2) Pulse! - Recently our company purchased a pulse pendant for our Miller XMT 350 push pull aluminum MIG machine and I must say, it is a night and day difference between it and standard CV MIG. Less warpage, less smoke (doesn't really apply to tig but just saying) and the general stability in the arc is phenomenal!. I would like to experience this with tig as I hear lots of people praising it.

    3) supporting a smaller company and trying something new!

Anyhow, I have done enough babbling for my first post, just thought I would come out from hiding and say hi!

    Welcome aboard Rob

We can always use more experienced help. The EX is a great machine. Can't ask for much more in that sized package. Post up some car projects pictures if you have any. One this I am bad at is taking pictures until the project and done and gone.

Glad you came out of hiding.

    Thanks for the warm welcomes...

Mike, My wife loves photography, so every once in a while, I sneak her SLR out to the garage for some pics. I have plenty of documentation of my cars along with others that I have lent a hand on. You will probobly read this post and think to yourself "why did I have to mention pics, this guy just flooded the thread with his!" LOL

Ram, heres one of my cars that I have had for a while, started out like this..

    paint and major resto

    finished product

now time to make it go fast!

Motor fully assembled and fab work allmost complete

    ready to race!

I only took this car to the track once, I kinda like the building part more than the racing part, lol. It ran off the wastgate 9.6 psi boost and I managed to do a 12.04 @116 mph. Its built to handle much more boost so it could be a 10 second car, but not having a cage, I can only take it to 11.50. I just sold this car to a good friend of mine that has been wanting it for a while. hes doing some upgrades as well, like a bigger motor (from a 1.6 to a 2.1 L) a bigger turbo ( from a t3/t04e to a S366XL) and various other things. It will be a rocket!

I recently found a 10th anniversary RX7 turbo II that I am now working on. Due to a new house purchase and lots of work, its off to a slow start but it will be my dream RX7 that I have allways wanted when im done. Ive allready yanked the stock motor, and it now has a streetported built 13B running microtech, methanol injection, and Holset HX50 powered very soon!

Had a guy come and look at my syncrowave today, basically just a tire kicker and wasted my time, Grrr!

Just had a few questions to the experts on here...

Does the 250EX have a 220 supply for the watercooler or would I need to have (2) 220 outlets on the wall? (1 for the 250EX, 1 for the watercooler) Would be nice if it plugs into the back of the machine. Anyone have pics of their watercooled setup on a 250EX?

I need to get my electrician in here to wire my garage with a dedicated breaker for my welder and will get him to put in an extra if need be for the watercooler

The 250EX has a plug on the back for our cooler, you plug the cooler in the back of the welder. So if you go with that combo you are good to go.

I have a buddy that only does RX7s, has big holly carbs on them. The motors are so small, it is pretty amazing what they can do.

On the pictures, most her like to see what others are doing. Grill, bike, car, about anything.

Thanks for the response Mike, Thats what I was hoping to hear!

So, I managed to sell my syncrowave last night, so pretty soon is time to pick up the new unit! Now, do I wait for the 250EXT, or go for the 250EX...

Are the 250EXs in stock, ready to ship currently? Keep in mind Im in canada so Im wondering if everlast canada has stock..

What kinda wait am I looking at for a 250EXT? I'm not in a huge rush, so if its going to be worth it to wait, I will. I like the new display how everything is layed out like a timeline, ingenious idea!
