OK guys, I'm in! (How can I refuse? )
Thanks for the support and appreciation; I was speechless when I first saw this thread, didn't know how to respond at first.
I figured I'd better send a reply so as to not "leave you guys hanging."
If you guys have a welding project you wanted me to try tackling at a reasonable rate, or just want to submit a donation, send me an IM. I'll reply with my business contact info, (which at this point I'm a bit hesitant on broadcasting publicly.) But any general "beer fund", consumable or other donations will not be rejected!
But yeah I'd be happy to try out different things you guys may be interested in learning about, especially if you guys help support the effort. (And to keep on writing about them for the good of the community, of course!)
A few things I'm interested in learning more about how to weld:
* exotic metals (titanium, copper, anything else?)
* helium/argon mix shielding gas - always wanted to try it, or pure Helium.
* developing techniques to weld with cheaper equipment (IE: aluminum using DC-only TIG machine)
* perhaps figuring out or learning how to get that particular, yet elusive aesthetic look we've seen someone make
* maybe learn more about the usefulness of different welding machine features (or third party add-on gizmos / etc)
* better understanding of inert gas shielding, maybe how to better visualize it. I think its hard for a lot of us, because we can't see it!
* pre-heating / post heating techniques
* Useful metallurgy stuff
What else are you guys interested in learning about? Not saying I can help everyone with every question - far from it. When I don't know something, I won't pretend to.
If anyone else wants to contribute to our overall learning, I would hope to foster that as well. Maybe we could eventually put together a "Welding Technique FAQ" of sorts. (Not just all by myself.)
