Hi guys,
It's been a while since I was around, but I'm in the market for a welder again. I talked to Oleg last week (who is still the man) and I'm going to get a 280sth.
I know there's been a lot...
This is for work, so the budget is pretty much Nil. the plate is about 26x20, so it soaks up a lot of heat. I think the nearly empty fuel bottle may have been part of the problem heating the plate,...
Hey guys, I've got (4) 3/4" holes to cut in a truck crane mounting plate that is a piece of 1" plate welded to a piece of 3/8" plate. After 25 minutes of heating, I got the top plate hot enough to...
+1 on the fixative. that will keep any flaking paint in place and give a uniform matte finish (assuming matte fixative, sometimes 'fixatif'). Personally, I'd clean up the outside with 1200 grit or...
I've done that a handful of times with a 3/32 6011. it works on 3/8" and larger bolts.
50' of 8ga SEOOW should be fine in that regard, thanks for the suggestion though.
I think mark may have nailed it with the spatter bridging between the cup and the contact tip. all it takes is one...
I'll keep an eye on the spatter buildup, then, and see if that's a factor on when it trips. I can't say I was paying close enough attention to say one way or the other right now.
Update:
I'm still having issues with the machine cutting out w/ the green warning indicator. it happens more often if the machine has been on and idle for a while than when you first turn it on....
ok, I'll pay closer attention to whether the light goes off tomorrow(presuming it comes on), have plenty more plug welds to do (spring perches are completely rotten, as well as the shock mount...
I was curious whether you liked the plate load arm vs say an EZ curl bar. I like EZ curls a lot, but I guess you could build the EZ hand grip into that design. I guess the benefit of that kind of...
the last time there was no way I was over duty, I'm doing plug welds and the machine was only on for 5 minutes.
I'm willing to believe that the other times I just wasn't paying attention. I'm just...
I've been thinking about building a squat rack. I think I'll give it a go if I can find 12ga unistrut locally for a reasonable price. I don't think I'd be down for drilling all the holes for...
The last week or so I've been replacing a whole bunch of floor sheetmetal in a '63 Saab 95 (wagon). My I-MIG has thrown then green warning icon 4 or 5 times and stops welding. the wirefeed still...
for reference, the wirespeed readout on my 200 goes from around 85 @ 6ipm to 299 @ 640ipm.
in the commonly used range, the readout is roughly proportionate to double the wirespeed.
wow, another one already? keep this up and you'll eventually break my lifelong streak of not winning things :)
1) I already like Everlast on facebook, does this count again? subscribed on...
I have an I-MIG 200, I'd recommend it highly. the torch is good, the ground sucks (sorry guys), so plan on replacing it. I'm using a $12 solid brass one from the LWS, it had a slightly softer spring...
I thought so too. I think that might explain it's prevalence in exhaust, too. although, I don't think I've ever seen headers out of 410, where the benefit would be greatest.
you're probably right on that one. nickel is ductile enough to disperse enough of the stresses from the stainless' higher coefficient of expansion before they reach the brittle cast iron to keep it...
I'm glad I asked, I hadn't thought about the difference in thermal expansion. I'm pretty sure these manifolds are plain grey iron, so figure 5.7 ppm/F. 304&308 are 9.3, 309 is 8.2*
410, on the...
(unrelated to the last page or so)
I was thinking, since these contests are mostly incentives to get the # of forum posts up, and the fact that it dies around here after the contest is over for...
yes and no. we have upwards of 40 cast manifolds(stainless is expensive, boss is cheap) and re-designing 2-stroke exhaust ahead of the expansion chamber is a big headache that I'm not ready to tackle...
I'd like to weld stainless(304) v-band flanges on the exhaust manifolds of the 2-stroke saabs I work on for better sealing and easier disconnect. I've only welded mild to cast iron or cast iron to...
Thanks to Mark and Oleg and everyone else at Everlast for another great contest, and congrats to Zaoma for winning! Looking forward to the next one, I always like seeing what everyone else is up to...
the clamping is the issue. it doesn't take much of a gap at all to make a poor resistance weld, just enough that the pressure from the tongs can't completely compress the joint. the big problem is...
