250 LX Tig breakdown #1 Need help Techs !

Here is what happened I bought this 250 LX direct from Everlast really wanted to go out on a limb and try it out figured it was a good purchase (bang for the buck) Summer 2011. Less than 10 hours total time welding and a year later this happens.
I was practicing on some aluminum scrap about a month ago. The tip started to sputter and splatter the material. All of a sudden the amperage reading got hung up at 473-474 and stayed there. Here is an image I also took a movie of me turning the machine off and on hopping it would reset it and turning the amperage knob a few times and nothing and flipping switches.
I have reached a point where I am starting to make products for people. Please help me I would really like to have this machine back and up a.s.a.p. I don’t want to become a naysayer and say I should have bought a miller or something. I’ll give Everlast one last try if you guys can fix this Ill continue to advocate Everlast.

Have you tried with and without the pedal? Do a search here for "4053" and see if that sounds like your problem. I seem to remember one version of the issue can be reset, and the other has to go in for service.

Going to try to call Everlast tomorrow about this seems like it is that issue with stuck amperage. Thanks bro !

Yeah, 4053. But...you have 250EX if you bought it last year.

Yes it appears to be 4053, and NO I have something called a 250LX. It was an in between model that was sold to me a little over a year ago. They are discontinued as of now but from what I was told the parts are similar to a 250EX minus a few special options that the 250EX has over the LX.

I have left a message with Mike as of 5:29 Central time Texas. Hopefully I get some sort of feedback or diagnostic procedure to follow. I am not against fixing my machine myself. I would be more than happy if Everlast helped me diagnose the problem and then mailed me the part with detailed instructions on how to fix it. I knew getting this machine it would be somewhat of a "backyard special". I also emailed them a for technical support lets see how long the turn around time is. Your only as good as how you handle complaints and break downs.

Mark from everlast service contacted me today. I got an RMA in the works and must mail back my welder. There is a 4 week turn around so might be stuck renting a welder for the time being. Mark advise me that the welder is under warranty and wont cost me anything. He will upgrade the circuits and rectify the problem. I am happy about the quick response. Lets see how long it takes and how the the welder works when it returns to me. Thanks everlast and Mark !

Not quite sure about that ? I know its discontinued that's about it. It is also the little brother to the 315LX. I know because it was a weird welder they discontinued it.

Yeah me too. We can track the little green giants progress with this as he makes his way to Everlast Repair Facility.

Cost me about 160 with boxes and packing for the UPS guy to pack it (twice apparently electronics needs to be double boxed). He says the giant will be safe on his way there double boxed and marked as "HV" High Value. They say it will be taken care of on its journey.

I used the 250LX for about 4 years and it was my favorite until it was downsized in amps. It uses the same boards the 250EX has, so not sure why anyone thinks will be any different that fixing the 225LX or 250EX. Same boards inside.

I know, but the IGBT's probably wouldn't handle it...they are different setup if I remember right.

I was told by a sales man that its almost identical to a 250ex minus a few features. I was told it would take sales away from the 250ex because it was was the same amperage as a 250ex, but had less features (that people might not need anyways) and it was cheaper. So it was deemed necessary to discontinue it. That is all know. Electronically I would image they are the same and regardless as long as my welder gets fixed that is all that matters. The 250LX was a good unit...but it did compete with the EX...and wasn't that much cheaper for us to produce, but people expected a larger price difference....sooo.....I had one of the first generation EX's too, and can testify that the first time I welded with it, I knew that it was special...after I blew up the cup with just the right pulse and AC frequency setting, and it just cracked apart.

Kinda figured, might as well save a couple bucks taking a pair out if you can. It's not like they're a weak point apparently. I practically never have my welder cranked anyway..

Yeah, it sucks but if you're doing it for money or need to always have a welder, you're going to need more than one. You never know what's going to happen. Yeah I am just going to get another machine regardless. Things do go wrong and you might need 2 machines for back up and stuff.
