Mark, thanks for the additional vids. They leave me with one question though, Where is (are) the torch switches, and how is the switch cable going to be run out to the torch handle ?
Keep up the good work,
Jim

They are separate and you put them on yourself. The one I had tested had a small microswitch that zipped on instead of a big paddle switch.
I like that it will be a microswitch, the paddle worked OK for me to to operate, but was a bit clunky when stored or set down.
Guys, We'll have to see what was shipped with the production models. . This was one of the preproduction models. Final product may be a little different. I'll see IF I got any pictures of them so you can see it. They definitely take up less space.
Last I heard you were expecting to receive these in a week to ten days. Any updates? I have a big project that I'm gonna need this welder for that is coming up rather quickly.
People seem to think we at Everlast never sleep, online tech support Saturdays, Sundays, holidays etc.. We aim to please. :)
Well, it's 8:30AM Saturday and I have a 255ext to test. Oleg sent a 2013 255ext for evaluation/training and it landed here yesterday but I was tied up. I will hook it up and get working with it today. Later, I'll hook up with Mark and compare notes.
So off to find a plug, or pull one, or go buy one. I really like the 210ext, so we'll see how they compare.
First notes are, the packaging was great and no real damage and it was not as heavy as I thought it would me. Did not unwrap the plastic yet.
I hope the latest comments are not directed at my request for an update... That would be uncalled for. One of the beauties of a forum is the ability to respond at your convenience. And it is called a forum for a reason, so the information is available to all. To get defensive and attack would be poor customer service, especially since I/we have been so patient for so long. I am just inquiring about a product that your company has told me would be ready by now, and I have over $2000+ invested in. I do not believe I was rude, demanding, or in any way attacking, so again I would hope this response was not directed at me.
I can not comment on the USA time frame . I will leave that to others but I know I will be talking to the factory within the next two weeks to schedule a time frame for me to be there for these and other units to be produced . For Canada I expect likely mid October to be completed but I never like giving time frames because of any possible unforeseen circumstances developing especially when it comes to new model first production runs.
Cheers
Update on this unit so far.
Mark and I chatted a bit this morning right after I posted that I received one for training. So far we agree on everything, he gave me some checks to make (wave forms, etc). I fired it up and setup two menu settings (AC and DC) but was pulled off to go look at a friends 53' trailer with some issues.
I hope get get back on it today, if not I will tomorrow. I did take a couple shots with the cover off. After I see how much junk is in the background I will edit and post them up.
So far very please with everything, looks and operations wise, just have to weld with it.
Thats's all I'm looking for, is the regular updates, even if its just an update to say that there isn't any update... We're all adults and this is business, there is no reason to make condescending remarks or personal attacks. Like I mentioned before, we've all been waiting for a long time, and I have seen too many comments made to people that are just looking for a more regular update. To hear about how busy somebody is is not acceptable, as a representative of a company, you should not take things personally. I believe in Everlast, otherwise I would have taken my money elsewhere back in February when the first delivery date of the new unit was missed.
Oleg, you run a good company with good products, please make sure your employees understand that regular communication is far better than no communication and insults to those that ask.
Oleg himself is responsible ultimately for communicating updates, no one else. If he tells us something we update it. If he doesn't we can't give information we don't have.
I would add that Duncan is not an employee. I and Mike aren't employees in the traditional sense...at least that's what my accountant tells me. I assume Mike's does too.
Some inside pics. Forgot to look for a spot to hook up the scope. Will have to open it again.

Thanks for the pics. Did you notice what brand caps were used? That fan looks pretty substantial, how is the noise level and is it a fixed speed, or does it vary with temp? Look forward to your review. Is this an actual production unit, or a pre-production sample?
Fixed...and loud. secondbatch
Guys,
On demand fans result in higher prices, lower duty cycles, and the potential for more failures. This isn't a computer sitting, in a nice cool place under your desk. It's a machine that is sitting in a high stress environment, in 120 degree heat and 95% humidity at times, (as Mike, mine and any body's shop is in the South East) drawing in smoke, ultra fine metal particles and dust. If your computer was in that environment, those on demand fans would be going full tilt. What's the expected life span of a computer as it is? After 3 or 4 years, the manufacturers WANT you to replace it. It isn't something we are going to do for the near future. It's not even in our plans for now.
Yes, it might be doable, but not something we feel is as pressing as other matters. Our goal is to keep the units running cool and keep the duty cycle that we advertise.
I find this one is not as loud as the 250EX though. Hey, 250 amps, it needs some air :)
Quick update, my son ran the 2013 EXT today. Said it welds really nice (was all DC today). I thought it sounded like he had some arc start issues, but it was his helmet was down (batteries) and he was using one our old ones. So first report on DC was was all good. Was 1/8" 1" tubing.
I agree 100% with Mark. And it is 120 degrees OR 95% OR both here most of the year. He's not joking there.
I have no problem with the fan noise, I have a lot louder things I live with. The compressor charging when I am on the phone bugs me some, someone grinding when I'm on the phone does too. But that's sometimes how a shop works, at least for me.
I would rather not have on-demand and get a better duty cycle and know I will get (if I keep it clean and covered ;) ) a lot more time/use out of my machine.
That's the answer I was looking for. With the large size of the fan (thickness) I wasn't sure if that meant more pitch in the blades and lower RPM (quieter) or just a GIANT high speed fan (noisier). I'm glad it is the former. I didn't mean to wind anyone up over variable speed fans, it was just a question. Personally for shop equipment most fan noise is negligible. Compressors are another story, which is why I like to have mine live outside or once I put the pump and motor portion up on the roof.
BTW I'm sure I have a computer with much louder fans than the 255EXT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad73ZKAbrkw
Any info on the brand of caps?
For me, I find the fan louder...I can't remember the name of the capacitors. I believe it's the standard we use in the 250ex and others. Korean name, if I remember right. Name brand, but I'll have to or Mike will to post.
I think there is a decibel meter app for android. I'll try to download it if its free, and maybe mike has one and we can objectify the readings at the machine, 5 ft...10ft..inside a shop environment.
Interesting topic, I need to thank Rambozo for asking all the questions I had:-)
I like what is being reported, as looking at the pix, Mark's machine has a black fan, and Mike's has a blue fan. I am hoping that the later builds use the quieter blue fan.
The correct way to get a sound pressure level measurement on these machines is to send mine to me, and I'll take a reading and report back. Until then, the pictures are nice to peruse. Any more vids in the works on this machine?
Still ready in Kent,
Jim
If it is as quite as my MTS250S I will be happy my PowerTig 250EX is nosier then my compressor and my Power Plasma 60S cutter is also.
The compressor is a screw type 5.5 HP 25 CFM @ 125 PSI.
Same fan setup generally as most 250EX and 60S.
MTS has a different fan setup...lower duty cycle as well.
At this point I am too anxious to worry about the fan noise. Also getting close to pushing off my project for ~6 months as I am running out of time waiting for the machine. The updates are looking good though :D
Measured the decibel level, on my Samsung Galaxy with one of the better recommended (as accurate) android apps. This was in my shop with hard walls, 11 foot ceiling etc.
I took a bench mark measurement, which included cars passing on the road @approx 150 ft away, with the shop doors down just for a frame of reference. Then I took it at the back in the middle of the fan area at one inch, then from the front at 1 ft, 3 ft, 5 ft, 10 ft. I then took a side measurement at 5 ft. All measurements were about three feet off the floor, the same height as the welder.
Benchmark: 31 dB
At the fan 1": 86 dB
At 1ft in front: 74dB
At 3 ft in front: 71dB
At 5 ft in front: 70 dB
At 10 ft in front: 68 dB
At 5 ft on side: 70 dB
The phone gave me approximate equivalents of what each dB level meant, and I confirmed it as fairly accurate via other online sources.
30-40dB Quiet whisper at 3ft...library level
60-70dB Normal conversation at 3 ft.
70-80 dB Busy traffic, phone ring tone
80-90 dB Busy Street, Alarm clock
Keep in mind that 3 or 4 decibels makes a significant difference in the loudness. Some of you tech experts on noise, and sound can chime in...and tell me why this is/isn't right.
(A) weighting Sound level Meter I did this with my sound meter.
--------------- PT250EX---PP60S---MTS250S
At 1 ft in front: 89dB ---- 78dB ----- 63dB
At 5 ft in front: 74dB ---- 68dB ----- 56dB
At 10 ft in front: 70dB ---- 66dB ----- 54dB
At 20 ft in front: 65dB ---- 63dB ----- 52dB

Marks Samsung Galaxy not bad for android apps. But outside for me in the country is real quite.
At 1 ft. in front: 74dB
At 3 ft. in front: 71dB
At 5 ft. in front: 70 dB
At 10 ft. in front: 68 dB
Great vids, pics, and info, guys. Keep it coming!! :)
I have 80-81db at front and back (right on the case pretty much), 69db 4-5 feet away from the front. I don't think it's that bad. People pay for a 100+db rock concert :D
This one has the blue fan. I think Mark has the black one. So the blue was 5db less.
the inside of the 250EX and the 255EXT are very similar it should be a very good machine the 250EX is.

The "final drive" so to speak is very similar.
Mike,
I think the 5 ft measurement was essentially the same...which the 5-10 ft range would probably be more typical of a use type situation. These fans can be bought in any color imagineable, including red, yellow etc. Mine was taken with the all the doors closed, and the machine running about 2 feet from the back wall.
The final drive is the same, 250amps of power.
I have just under 70 at 5'. I'm not bothered by the fan. So long as it welds I am happy.
What does the weight finally come in at?
In the manual it said it was 60Lbs bare weight. (http://www.everlastgenerators.com/do...TIG-255ext.pdf)
Ok,
Since you guys 'like' updates...here's one...as I understand it from Oleg
We should be good to go in 10 days or less. There are a couple of minor things that you guys should be aware of that we became aware of after things shipped out from the factory. I don't think this will be a real issue for anyone. Not sure if you guys could see the pictures Mike posted of his unit he received in advance, but the unit was labeled as a 250EXT. Before we decided to rename the unit, I drew up a label and sent it to them. Then I redrew a new one when we made a name change and sent it to them. They got it right for the first test units, but in this first production batch they pulled the wrong file and put the wrong label on the face, with the 250EXT. The label is replaceable with a little effort, and the correct one can be sent out to you if desired.
Also we're thinking that they probably got the torches wrong based off Mike's unit he got shipped in advance. They'll likely come with the standard torch and accessories, but we'll have the upgraded accessory package sent out to you as soon we have them available. If this proves to be true through the entire production run, we will try to get them asap.
Or the alternative is to wait a good bit longer for the next production run of units.
No one's happy about the little snafu but there's not a lot to do at this point.
