Jason, there are a few surprises more that will be introduced this year. We're still holding a few cards on thing we have been working on. You see those wrapped connections etc? Everything we have been doing in the last few years is coming together as far as quality and cooperation from the factory.
Now that the new year has started is the release date still pretty much accurate?

Having a high pulse frequency isn't the purpose of the advanced pulse. First, a high pulse frequency for this AC/DC thing isn't possible I don't think because it is physically switching sides of the inverter and the output. But on a larger note, the pulse in the advanced mode helps freeze the puddle rapidly on advanced aluminum, while having rapid forward travel, and creating a more "defined" stack of dimes. It's almost like bump welding without the arc going off completely.
I'll try to make a more detailed video of the pulse soon. We have one up, but the camera was giving some problems. Working on figuring out how to get better shots. If I can get a close up, you'll be able to see how the welder works on advanced better.

The memory setting memorizes everything from tig/stick, power settings, frequencies.... But for myself the logic is so easy to change I just adjust the settings as I work with the 250 EXT. It looks like the 255 EXT logic will be similar and that is a good thing because the 250 EXT is easy to program.Quote:

We are working as hard as we can about this. If you feel its unfair, and are disappointed, we can assure you that we feel the same if not more so. But looking at Miller's 280 Dynasty fiasco, I think we are a lot closer to a true release date than they are. They promoted it pre 2011, and was in the 2012 catalog. Picked up a 2013 today and it's nowhere to be found (in my copy at least. they may have earlier/later versions of it that it may be in) It was even on their site (still is if you know where to look). Many people paid up to get one when they became available...First their guys told them it was some last minute technical issues....then they said it was because of constantly changing government standards....Now the scuttlebutt is that they say it is held up because things are politically stacked against it internally??? Anyone wonder who it made them realize they needed a unit in the 250 amp range to begin with, with some more simple controls? I do.
On a personal note, I find that it is hypocritical to give a large company like this a pass on a similar issue, yet hold a much smaller company's feet to the fire. We're trying to offer a good product for a decent price and do it on a smaller budget....and looks like we'll resolve things before they do. I know they didn't release it, but the amount of buildup and money they put into it, got a lot more people selling their product and in some cases putting money down in expectation of a product that is likely a ways off, IF it ever is released.
We've been square about this 255ext from the start. We really aren't that far off in the grand scheme of things. The unit WOULD be in production right now, minus two AC wave forms, if we felt that people cared more about the deadline than the features. The factory could and would produce it that way...but the triangular (most valuable and demanded wave form besides the square wave) wave form was not fully ready and the sine is similar in design issue (even though it is distinctly different). Right now, we have done our dead level best to get things out on time. But it's not happening in this production cycle. Things are what they are. We're having to make some feature and final adjustments right now. Our only fault is trying to put a optimistic deadline on this thing.
Don't confuse the issue with the 250ext with the 255ext. Two different issues. The majority of people who are waiting NEVER owned a 250 ext. This isn't just about replacing a unit. It's a larger issue, and being sure the product is right SO we don't repeat things of the past. But for some people, nothing will be right what ever we do in this situation...they will complain over, armchair quarterback, carp about, and confuse the issue.

As a software Engineer myself, I can tell you that sometimes the deadlines will be missed. The company I work for contracted a project that was suppose to be done last October and we are now working on finishing it up in-house and still experiencing some difficulties getting it to work to our expectations. In regards to the 255EXT, I would rather wait a couple more weeks for a product they feel is complete rather than them releasing something they know there is a problem with. Also with it being the end of a quarter, I am sure they are busy with more than getting the new product line completed.

I have a couple of questions, and hope you can help with their answers. In using the 250ext, the interface was tricky because of the high "typematic" rate. You would overshoot your target, then go back with ten more button presses to hit it. I called it the interface of a thousand button presses, I know this was fixed in a repair release, but in the mean time, we all moved on to the 255 plans.
My question is regarding exactly how the 255 interface works, if you know yet. Obviously there is some combination of knob presses, knob twists, probably short and long knob presses to enter modes to select functions and others to set values. So please describe:
How do you enter the function-change mode?
Do you press the knob to move through the functions or twist it?
How do you get into value-change mode?
How long, in seconds, do you ever need to hold in the knob?
Is a quick press of the knob used? For what action?
Does it always return to Amps? If so, do you then just twist the knob, or do you press, or tap, the knob then set the amps value?
Please walk me through this interface once before it shows up, thanks.
My second question is regarding the knobs. Oleg gave me hope earlier in this thread that you had found better knobs for the 255, is that so?
Thanks for any info on this. I really hope this interface will be helpful to the operator, rather than cumbersome.

Not having my hands on the final test version yet, I can give limited answers.
Duncan likely has more to say than I do. But its not unlike the 210 in this fashion.
The main knob controls both the limits and the exact function. Simply tap the knob to set,and roll it to highlight and select function, then tap it again to adjust it. Roll the knob up or down to increase or decrease. Press again to lock in the function.
There is basically only 1 knob on the ext. It wasn't on the ext units we were primarily working on different knobs...though it is a consideration.
