Just don't use "W" (neutral). X and Y are hot legs (no matter what color is which one) and green to ground (sometimes will have green paint/die). In most cases, ground is normally obvious looking, the two hots normally look the same but opposite.

That is correct; I have another cord set (for my generator) that I have wired neutral through W, but the connector on my welder is X,Y and ground.

Must be a new coding... I see they keep G for ground... W for neutral.... and X Y Z for hot (different phases)

I stopped by the hardware store some months back and they said you would not believe how many ask for a double male ended extension cord. They want one when they string Christmas lights and they get 2 female ends next to each other. (remember there will be a live male plug at the very end!!!!)
