I have been welding two days with the new 250EX, no problems to report. I do like the new quick release fittings on the torch to the water cooler. I was hoping the water cooler would turn on with the new welder, but not.

That's a simple fix that I had to do on the EXT as well... Mark has that very machine and could post up how to do this if he wants to help you.. I'll tell you how.... Cut the cooler cord off long enough to reach inside the machine and connect it to the switched side of the 220VAC breaker used to turn on the machine. Pick up a 220VAC cord cap male and female at HomeDepot and splice it into the cord and now the cooler can be connected and disconnected from the machine the way it should have been designed from the get go.. It cost about 10 bucks to do and cures that problem of turning on two devices every time you power up ...Quote:

I fixed the EXT the way I posted and like I said it was a cheap and easy.... You could wire both devices into a service disconnect and flip one handle as well... It can done as easy or as complicated as you feel the need for.. However mine never flipped a breaker ... You could also ......eh what's the use in posting ideas anyway because there will always be someone here that thinks they know better.... I didn't say it was the only way I said it was a good and easy way... It works looks factory and requires little if any skills or parts... A simple cord cap and 5 minutes time... There's always a better mouse trap..

I spoke with Oleg about how I wired my unit and found he really don't care where it get's it's power from.. There is no right or wrong way unless you skimp on the wire size required for the current draw of the device. What I specified worked without fail and will cost nearly nothing to do and anyone with basic electrical knowledge and some hand tools can do it in 30 minutes or less and make it look factory installed. Adding a relay is a fine way to do this job but totally un needed for this job. The amp draw of the cooler pump won't be changing as it runs at a constant demand. With that in mind if it's going to fail it will fail when you first flip the breaker.

I repair most of the larger machines, I have seen many minor modifications, power cords, jacks for coolers etc. my position is if it didn’t cause or aggravate the failure I don’t worry about it.
Now if you’re in there modifying the way it works, IE: installing some third party plasma CNC interface and it causes a short and catches fire, you’re on your own.
So yea, it's on a case by case basis, I think we are more than fair, just use your head. If you fry the solenoid relay for instance the biggest issue for us is liable to be over the shipping.
I been known to do some McGivering myself, but you have to take responsibility if you Eff it up.

I think I'd just throw the two switches. Don't you guys ever use the air cooled torches?
I pulled the cover off of mine today, to see how hard it would be to make the cooler come on with the welder, don't think it will be very hard.
After looking at the guts of the welder, I am amazed that 80% of them don't get damaged in shipping. Everything looks fragile to me. I would stamp fragile all over the box and maybe even think about the expanding foam packing system.
My Dad owned a dirt late model team until I was 14. All I wanted to do was race, and wanted to pit crew with a touring team. In 2006 I had the opportunity to help a friend during Speedweeks at Eastbay in Floriday. By mid week I was ready to come home! I thought staying in a toter home for a week and maybe two weeks would be fun. After a week of eating junk food and sleeping in the top bunk I was done! I came home sick and wore out! It was fun, but it was work! Racing every night and doing all the maintenance that most people have a week to do in one day sucked. We had to change motors mid week, and that was not fun either! I'm glad I did it, and it closed the door on something I always wanted to do. One day I will go back to speedweeks, but only to watch!Quote:

check out the ZX10 turbo shots. guy with thirty years experience welded that. good thing you had your foot pedal. good tig welder wouldn't care if he had the pedal or not. well he might care but he'd just weld it out. beautiful. lol
i owned couple of tens, an eleven and a twelve. i wouldn't have put that thing on my bike.
