Really Lead???


What’s on the threads is Loctite. It’s commonly used now on all kinds of high pressure fittings. Paintball tanks, SCBA parts etc.
The only way to remove it without damaging the treads is with a moderate amount of heat, (hot air heat gun) and keep it hot while moving. If the fitting it attached directly to the solenoid (on some models) it should be disassembled before heating.
Residual compound can be removed with MEK.
Yes it was meant to be permanent and not leak.
I also would NOT recommend changing them, but if your going to that’s how to do it w/o messing things up.

Yeah, really...lead. And high amounts of it too. I've known about that for years, as it is reinforced in Ag classes and pesticide use training about the dangers of drinking from "garden" hoses. Lead leaches quickly at high levels. The RV type aren't low VOC, they are low lead...Here's a quick read.

Maybe somebody's been drinking from the hose too much? lol

Wow, I had no idea, and to think how many time’s I’ve filled the RV or boat water tank off the hose. Guess this is a Hijack anyway you look at it, but good info.

Agree, the VOC's aren't from the lead they're from something else. Volatile Organic Compounds don't mean "Bad Stuff" it just means that it has an odor. Heck, a rose has one of the highest natural VOC levels.

Lead has a very low VOC but is supposed to be harmful. I dunno I drink regular in the morning and unleaded at night. I've never been quite right anyway so it's hard to tell if all those Lead and Oakum sewer line joints I poured affected me or not.

When I spoke of VOC's I was just stating that they were there and carrying something with them that was contaminating my welds. I didn't want to pay to find out what it was, I just stopped using it.

Usually what contaminates new torches and gives problems with welding is the residue of oil left over in hoses from the manufacturing process, particularly rubber hoses, though it has been known to happen in pvc as well. The VOC's are poured out when the air cooled lines are run too hot.
