Outstanding ... good luck with the aluminum ... it can be a challenge … remember it's the most persnickety thing you can weld when it comes to cleanliness. Redress your tungsten watch the setting.

thanks for the help guys! I was able to build a couple catch cans for my truck that i just finished an ls1 swap in. It amazing how much better and smoother it welds with the correct gas.. haha..

Also what do you guys think about using green tungeston on aluminum? I have been using red and it works well, but my uncle who works at air gas, told me his customers like the green better. thoughts??
Green is only for use on transformer welders with aluminum. In ac.
Its not recommended for inverter machines. ive found lanthanated the best for aluminum on my 225 lx eith the gold or blue band.

kool thanks for the advice guys! Ill be sticking with red.
On my 225LX I use red thoriated for steel and use blue 2% lanthanated for aluminum. These have given me the best results.

What about the new all purpose Purple ones.
2% Thoriated and 1.5%/2% lanthanated are best, I moved to lathanated. The grey and whites, are not bad on aluminum, but not best.
Almost said the colors, but that would look like a welder ad not in our favor.
I have been using 1.5% lanthanated for all my tig needs and have not had any problems with it even at 200A on aluminum.
i use rubbing alchol to clean my material ,mostly aluminum and i have had bad argon gas that i have had to exchange.i also make catch cans and intercooler tanks .
Never use brake cleaner. One of the ingredients when heated in the presence of argon creates phosgene gas and will kill you with as little as one drop.

Yes I know about brake cleaners. Although I am not sure where to but chlorinated brake cleaner any more. None of the parts store around me sell it. I prefer the non chlorinated stuff better anyways. I always use acetone but wanted to try something else just to eliminate possibilities. thus far it has been working great! Been making lots of catch cans, welding bungs and fitting into inductions, etc. I work at a performance shop so fabrication is a typical thing for me, but using tig welders I am new to.
Careful, it is NOT just brake cleaners. It is any solvent that uses CFC as a propellent.
