There are some new options as well, like SCS. Looks nice, but only available in a few places. :(

I looked at the map of where you can get it ... not available here in the Great Northwest ... maybe in the future. The only real problem I have with muriatic acid is that it is nasty stuff esp if you breath it. I would never want to atomize it without wearing a respirator and even with that ... for me having only one eye ... not optimum.
It gets even worse to breathe if you heat it up! I used to solder roof flashings and condensate pans at work right next to the exhaust hood ventilation, and you still get a strong whiff of that acid while soldering if the seam you're soldering is long!
I too have a phobia of chemicals mixing with my eyesight, since I got lacquer thinner in my eyes as a kid. Not an experience I care to repeat!
After a bout with throat cancer, I try a bit harder now to realize I'm not superman. Even as far as lanthanated over thoriated now, miss them.
Oh yea, never smoked.
I still push it a little, probably because I beat it.
But, I can assure you the mental pain (family and friends), the physical pain and cost, it is not worth it. Read the labels and follow the instructions.
Or, you could just save the wasted time and effort and use cold rolled steel. The cost will easily offset.
