Torn between the power tig 185 and the PowerTig DX 200A

I like the simplicity of the 185 however, I don't like that it has only a 3 second fixed post flow. That is by far not enough time.

If I'm not mistaken the 185 goes for like $850 shipped and the DX200 goes for $1100 shipped.

I would be replacing my Hobart Tigmate with this Everlast welder. I have out grown my Tigmate and it just does not do what I need it to anymore. Therefore I want to get one where I can adjust the cleaning and the frequency on AC. However, if I am upgrading because I have outgrown my welder, I don't want to get one that is just SLIGHTLY better. So I may end up just getting the DX200 Just because it will do all that the 185 will do plus a slew of other stuff for only $250 more.

Hmm, torn... If only that 185 had a longer post flow...

Actually,
Not a whole lot more. With the 200DX you have less AC balance control. But the 185 has plenty of post flow built in. A quick tap of the foot pedal or torch switch will extend it as well.
Give me a call, and I will work something out on a 185 for you if you want, or a 200DX for that matter.

Are you guys open tomorrow (Presidents day)? If you were open right now I would call and give you my card number to get this going, but I guess I can wait IF I HAVE TO... LOL.

I also want a definitive answer on Warranty. I understand you guys have a 5 year warranty which is great and better than Lincoln but... Where can I take my machine to have work done if something were to happen (Denver area)? Shipping a 50lb unit across country can be quite troublesome for the average Joe. This warranty issue is one of my MAIN concerns with this purchase.

We are going through some changes with our warranty. We have a new service center going on line(actually already on line) in Minnesota. We may have a local dealer in your area with AirGas Intermountain. Some of them are stocking, some are special order only...

So I went ahead and bought a Lincoln Precision Tig 185. I couldn't really pass it up because it was practically brand new and only cost me $1150 and was local to me so I just had to go get it that day.

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot stop thinking about these EVERLAST welders. After researching the Lincoln welder I bought, a few people have had problems with the PC boards. When they call Lincoln, they say it is on their "DO NOT REPAIR" list. WTF!!! Basically, nobody can get the PC boards repaired and have to drop $900 on a new board. GO LINCOLN! Not to mention the damn thing must weigh in at 200lbs and takes up more room in my garage than my project car does.

So far, the guys at Everlast have been there to answer my questions even though I have not purchased anything from them. I think I have decided that I am still going to get one of these welders. I will probably get the Power Tig 225LX and do some comparisons between the Lincoln and the Everlast.

Standard Equipment
- Tig torch with cable
(225 LX, 250 EX, 315DX water cooled)
- Work clamp with cable
- SMAW electrode holder
- Argon regulator
- Consumable starter pack
- Foot Pedal

From what I can tell, the TIG torch has the finger control on it as well. It also says that it comes with the foot pedal. I like this...

Mark, you were the one that replied to my thread here, so I may give you a call to see what we can do on an Everlast welder for me. Give me a few days and I will be in touch.

First off the 225LX is an excellent unit. I personally have owned two over the last couple years, and still own one. People see them and must have them, why I have one now. The 250EX offers (for me) an extra 25 amps of power and a couple features. But still a good choice too.

I had a ProCut (red cutter for those that do not know) that died. Quoted $1200 per board to repair. This was years ago, when I then became an Everlast customer. Yes, before I came to work for the company. Only thing I would say, is don't look back, just move forward. These days it is hard to beat our price, support and service.

The name on the unit, you might be able to sell it for parts on Craigslist, just let them know it does not work. Maybe fine a good electronic repair shop, fix it and sell it working.

Well, my Lincoln still does work. It is practically brand new. But because of the problems others are having, that is why I want to get out of it.

But while it works, I figured I would do a side by side comparison.

Oh I got ya. Well, sell it and use the money for ours, pocket the rest. Or buy supplies. If it seems to have a future issue that might cost big money, I would tend to want to move it along...

Yes, that is the plan... sort of. I cannot be without a welder so... I have to see where I can move what money to get your welder. Only when yours is up and working properly and consistently can I sell the back up.

I may just put it on the business card for now...

EDIT: Hmm, well I just tried to call the 650-588-8082 number. It rings once and then disconnects. I called back and it did the same thing. Can't buy a welder if I can't get through to you guys...

Did you try the 877 755 WELD number? Probably the same switching system, but worth a try.

I did not. I didn't know there was a different number. I just went off of what was in their signatures.

Hey Sportbike, what does your 500hp bike do in the 1/4? You gotta be low 8's easy but probably 7's right?

You might want to start a new thread, or PM Mark or Mike directly about the problem your having. With as many new posts happening on this board since the contest started, it would be easy to overlook a couple and not realize it.

Well, using the other phone number I ended up getting a hold of Mark. Seems to be a pretty alright guy who was more that willing to talk and not just rush me off the phone.

I ended up ordering the new Power Tig 225LX. It will be about 4 weeks before I see the unit, which is fine by me. I still have my Lincoln to get me by until then (unless that PCB craps out). Then even if I don't like the machine, they will take it back within 30 days. I'm sure I will like it just fine though from everything that I have read. However, I guarantee I will not have a problem ripping on a company that does a piss poor job at anything.

Mark and I were talking about the negative posts made about Everlast. I essentially told him that it is easy to find people talking crap about something or people posting up problems they are having. That is because the people that are not having problems HAVE NO NEED TO POST. Everything is working fine, why would they take the time to post?

When I get my machine, I will do some kind of a write up talking about it. Then when people say that I'm just some brand new poster made by Everlast, I can refer them to my posts and why I decided to get rid of my Lincoln.

Didn't notice the question. The best I have been is 8.04@ 185 in the 1/4. I have been ~145 in the 1/8th. I am hoping for something in the 7.70 range this year. It is a handful to ride, that is for sure. This is on a DOT approved tire and no wheelie bar.

Yes Lincoln and Miller parts are high but if they were cheep how could they sell the machines for the prices they do.
