Possible foot pedal issues??????????

I think I might be having a problem with the foot pedal that came with my 225LX. At least I think I've eliminated everything else.

I will do my best to describe what's happening so please bear with me.

What seems to be happening is a sudden, unpredictable loss and then recovery of amps. Regardless of where my foot is in the travel it acts as if I have backed off for a period of time and then got back in it. This even happens with the pedal floored. I know it is indeed backing off amps because I did a couple test while watching the amp display. When this happens I can also hear a sparking from inside the machine.

The reason I think it must be the pedal is I have tried both the stock torch and my WP 20 as well as different tungsten's and always have the same results.

However, when I plug in the button control form the stock torch (regardless of which torch I weld with) and set some up slope and down slope in to the machine I can get a nice smooth stable arc and can "pedal" the button to get a good control of the puddle. (actually getting good at that and can see where it could come in handy). Also, when I'm using the button, I don't hear any sparking coming from the machine.

The problem seems to be worse the lower I have the amp settings on the welder.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Sounds like the problems a bad pot. The switch for the HF start is still on and that sparking noise comming from inside the machine is probably the contacts for the HF start.

Good trouble shooting! Call Mike or Mark in the morning and they'll fix you right up.

It looks like we may have the problem found and solved.

I talked to Mark and it was a little above him so he had Ray call me.

Ray called as I was going in to work for the evening. He gave me a few ideas to try and after we hung up Mark called and so I gave him the run down of what I was seeing.

So, after I got home from work I checked the gap on the HF and it was a little wide so I reset that and left a message for Mark and Ray to call me back.

Ray was the first to call and guided me through a few other checks. We found the HF wires coming off the main coil were laying on a transformer.

After all that was "fixed" it seems that I now have a nice smooth stable arc. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b7...ns/thumbup.gif

We all have our areas of complimentary expertise with what we do. I can usually find out if it is Operator issues or not..hence my title....performance. Mike and Ray have their own talent sets that compliment each other,that's for sure.
