Powertig 250EX review and first project.

I've owned my Powertig 250EX for about 8 mouths now. This is my review and the first project using it.

Ordered online and at checkout something went wrong and it calculated the final price incorrectly. Emailed customer service, heard back shortly after and said they would take care of it in the morning. Which they did. Perfect.

Couple days later CS emailed and said the 2022 models were sold out and asked if I would like a refund or wait till the new 2023 models arrived. I'm in no hurry, I'll wait. They also asked since I didn?t order the water cooler would I like to exchange the torch for a gas cooled 26 instead. Yes please.

Overall very impressed with the folks at Everlast.


Few weeks later the welder arrived. Very well packaged with thick foam all round. All components neatly packed inside. Only damage was the front handle insert fell out. Which I believe was from the factory over tightening the screws. Quick couple drops of super glue and popped it back in.

First impressions, it has a good solid feel. Nice fit and finish. The LED's are REALLY bright, almost too bright for in the shop but perfect outside sitting in the bed of the truck. My only ?gripe? is the silly huge center handle. It's really not very useful. I just threw it away.


Decided to build a cart as a first project to get a feel for the machine. So ordered some wheels and a center toolbox section.

Cut the top and bottom out of 12ga diamond plate, used angle and tube for the frame.

Folded up a foot pedal holder and a drawer face. Made the drawer out a basket from an old fridge and will hold gloves a beanies.

After 3 trips to Sherwin-Williams with paint code in hand and finally even dragging the welder in we were no closer to getting the correct color. I gave up, its green.

Overall very happy with my purchase. It has so far performed flawlessly. I've since done a number of jobs in both steel and aluminum with outstanding results.
