Live Lift Tig question

I have a Powerarc 141 STL with live lift and lift tig. Manual that came with it is only a few sheets without much info, although it does mention erections. Must be lost in translation or they knew how excited I was waiting for it to arrive. Anyhow, searched forum and other manuals with no luck. 161 manual says no pedal or switch used then says roll over to touch the tungsten and press torch switch. Can someone explain the live lift. the torch being hot all the time I've got figured out but specifically how does the gas flow operate? Also, using live lift is it possible to connect a torch with a valve straight to argon?
