Electrical Grounding Rod Driver Implement for a Pneumatic Chisel Gun

A good used SDS demolition hammer/drill on Craigslist still starts north of a C note. Let's see if $10.00 worth of Harbor Freight butchered and cobbled together originals can accomplish the ten foot electrical grounding rod driving chore?

Buy pneumatic chisel set and half-inch drive 3/4" socket from Harbor Freight. Test fit socket/chisel combination on gun cutting to length. Hand lathe the chisel on the bench grinder to decrease the diameter of the cut end so it will fit in the through-hole of the socket. Weld the chisel/socket from both ends.

A short test with rebar seemed to work well. The first attempt hit a baseball-sized rock three inches in the dirt. I was curious and dug it up off-camera.

Sunk four 8' ground rods this past week as part of a grounding array. The pneumatic gun setup was perfect for starting the first three feet of the sink. Then, it was faster and easier to bang them in manually with a sledge.

Still, I consider the effort a success due to the ease with which the first three feet started perfectly straight.

Well it certainly sounds like you are a very grounded person. Sportsman Guide had some 5 ft. solid brass military surplus grounding rods I had some saved in my cart but I waited to long to purchase & they sold out.
