255EXT Pulse Stick Welding

Ok sounds crazy, but few other stop gap procedures led me to this experiment, Im sure we've all been there. Sometimes your in big and need lotta rod so you fire and add stick for big fill, or your two handed sticking so on so forth. So my first experiment was shut down gas and stick rod in tig gun, then I thought hey just a copper wired gun at that point same as stinger right? So this is what i went with, and keep in mind i was using 7013 only so far. But in tig mode, with pedal, but stinger instead of tig gun and did it in standard and dc pulse. I gotta say it worked pretty well for not doing a lot of practice yet, and the benefits wow! I didn't have to setup and scrape start cause hf did all the work. And in pulse it cleaned up bead track and kept heat down. Crazy I know and I still have to mess with it some more but if anyone else is inclined see what you think! settings below.

Yeah,

I think most any pulsed TIG/Stick unit will enable a pulsed Stick electrode, but I've never personally tried it.

Did you switch the leads to DCEP?

Hey Christian,

Oh yeah dcep for sure, it is 7013 after all! For academics i did run it on dcen though and runs there as welll, so if you were doing a nice top coat weld you can do that. Also if you were doing hard surface weld on something its also an option, otherwise just run dcep and penetrate away! And haven't done it yet but 7013 also runs on AC so no clue what waveforms might add to the party.

Yeah don't do that, unless you want to screw up your machine. Arc voltages are different

Good to Know! haha Not like I am in need to do this all the time, it was just an experimental mission. It is interesting but generally what job that needs pulse couldn't be done much better with just tig? Whether it was a need of heat or cold surgical weld, Tig can do that all on its own.
