Power I-TIG 200 - Tips and comments

Hi everyone! I'm new to Everlast and the Power I-TIG 200 DC welder. I just got mine off of the Big Brown Truck a few hours ago and am learning how to deal with it! :)

I had a Harbor Freight "Little Red Box" TIG with scratch start and amps control only. I learned a lot about TIG with the thing, but it only lasted about a year and went up in smoke! :(

So I decided to move up to a much more substantial welder! After a lot of internet searching and reading, I ordered the Power I-TIG 200. The DC only side of it didn't bother me at all as I only weld steel.

I am a licensed firearms manufacturer and most of my welding is on fairly thin metal (.040 to .080") so good control of the arc was very important.

Also, I was really sick of constantly contaminating my tungsten by scratch starting at low amps!!

The welder I received today is apparently one of the first of the new I-T 200 welders. This one has true pedal control of amperage and also has a couple of new added feature knobs. I don't remember which ones are new as I don't know much about the old I-T 200. :)

The only big issue I have had so far was a result of not downloading and really reading the manual! It turns out that the pedal won't work as an amp control unless 2T is selected on the rocker switch! Dumb me - I thought the machine was broken!

Once over that hurdle, it was great! I love the high frequency starting, the ramp up and down and the pedal control of the amps! All of this was impossible with the "little red box" welder.

BTW - I could put 4 of those LRB welders inside the I-T 200!

I have to agree with you on that.
Although i personally have not really had the time to really play with it i am hoping to spend a few hours later today on it.
I have a Jeep Show and Shine on Sunday that i am busy getting ready for then a new shipment arriving begining of next week so my time has been really tight lately.
I keep looking at the unit sitting there but so far i have really only spent a total of about 1 hour with it it seems it is 10mins here and there and then something else comes up. Just like replying to this post that i started 45 mins ago.

I am glad that the unit is working for you. Was that you I talked with last night about the unit or someone else? I hope you find that it works well for your application.

Hi Mark! Yes that was me. I got the I-TIG 200 up and running fine today.

The problem I thought I was having with the unit turned out to be a partly fried 220V circuit breaker! One side was arcing. Changed the breaker and - presto - the I-TIG took off running.

Here's a shot of it when I unpacked it. It even came with a gas regulator!!

I REALLY like this thing!

OK! I'm getting this picture thing figured out! :)

Here's my very first "real" attempt at doing something constructive with the I-TIG 200. This is part of a gun my buddy Mark is working up and he wanted part of a Sten welded to part of a CETME. The top weld is my final weld of the three sides, and of course I want to show the best weld.

This is on the first day I had the welder and with about 10 minutes of practice. Also - remember - I'm a gun maker, not a welder.

It's a Polish PPs-43 Sub machine gun.

Now, before anyone asks, it's now semi auto only and I'm a licensed firearms manufacturer. Class 07FFL.
