Powertig 210ext no ac arc

Hello everyone,

I purchased my 210EXT new less than a year ago in 2015. It worked well initially, but after some light duty work the AC function stopped working. The DC mode still worked well, but in AC mode I would only get the HF start and no arc and then the "805" code qould show up on the machine. After contacting Everlast, we went through some diagnostic tests with the machine and I was told that it was probably the control board that had gone bad. I opted to have them send me a new board and replace it myself rather than having to ship the machine back to Everlast. To make a long story short, there was a delay in the shipping and about a month later I recieved a package with one large and two smaller boards. I took of the cover off the machine and carefully replaced all three boards. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem as I still have no arc in AC mode, only the HF start. After calling Everlast back, and again testing various functions and settings including swapping the torch and triple checking all connections, I was told to send the machine back for repair. Well, I just shipped the machine to Everlast, which costed me a whopping $110! I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced a similar failure. I now have very little trust in the machine as it can fail at any time for no apparent reason, and repairs will cost me serious time and money. I would appreciate any constructive input.

There's no rational reasons for a loss of so-called trust in a 210 EXT or the Everlast support.

I have a 2015 210EXT, and dig it. I've seen no evidence of more than you alone having a big problem like this, and Everlast is taking care of you. I mean, I think I get a 805 code on my display if my CK SteadyGrip amptrol trigger potensiometer briefly gets moved out of the arc termination position, and after about 5 seconds, without initiating an arc. So maybe it's just a simple switch problem.

But, these things do happen. It's irrational to think that you alone should be spared from these kind of eventual odds somehow. The Miller and Lincoln users also have these occasional odds too. But you've paid about a third of the cost as a comparable Dynasty 210DX and have a longer warrantee too, so you have a lot of extra cash for what will undoubtedly be a relatively small, one-time warrantee shipping cost during those 5 years.

You could have just decided at the beginning to send in the unit, but Everlast accommodated you by sending boards to you for installation as a chance of saving you time and shipping costs. Did you thank the Everlast staff for that? I'm sure Linclon and Miller almost neve do that for typical customers. But that gamble did'nt pay off for you or Everlast either, so I'd quit whining about it, until you really have someting to cry about. But that'll probably not happen, as the unit will probably be returned to you in 30 days and work like new! And Everlast will undoubtedly be able to ship it back to you for a lower cost than you shipped it to them ($110; did you also pay to have it boxed/packed for you?).

Well, I certainly wasnt whining. I wanted to get a sense of who else may have had a similar failure. And foe the record, Im other name brands also have failures. In fact I own two other Miller machines, but the fact remains that any failure after just a few months of light use does not instill confidence.

Well,

Objects or events cannot instill confidence in anyone. But how you think about things and events can. And you have a choice about how you think about things, which includes bith irrational and rational thoughts and thinking styles. So, there's a lot of ways to make youself needless anxious or frustrated, but I don't recommend doing that.

As an example, 2015 was not a "few months" ago. So, that's an exaggeration/minimization, which is another subtle form of whining, in my opinion.

Trust the process that Everlast has in place for its customers, like you and me both, and I'll bet in 30 days you'll have nothing to cry about for the remainder of the 5 year warrantee.

I don't think Lincoln or Miller would send parts out for you to try out. My brother had an issue with a new Lincoln, I wasn't feeding wire properly. They asked him to take it to the nearest service center which is nearby. My brother is dyslexic and before they even laid a hand on it, I read the instructions and noticed that he was using the wrong drive wheel. I instantly called him and had him tell the service center not to touch it, he still had to pay them 85 bucks to get it back from them. He was pissed and he told them to find a nice dark place to cram the money he just gave them. He also let Lincoln know about these folks but as of yet, no response. He also told them that with all the red and blue welders laying around in several states of disrepair, to get off their fat asses and fix them rather than screw the other customers like they did him.

The one thing I tell everyone that might be interested in buying a welder, is to seriously consider Everlast. They are second to none when it comes to customer service. They will makes things right.

I own a 255EXT and after having a small issue with the HF start not initiating. Everlast sent me a new control board and HF board. That didn't fix it, then they sent me a new welder. They said to keep the boards they sent and now I have them as spares. I also have a Miller 211, the older transformer type. I had an issue with the smooth start function. I contacted Miller and the sent me a new control board. So they both are willing to help out their customers with trying to avoid long down times with sending the machines back.

That's nice to hear about Miller too.

I stand (I'm actiually sitting) corrected about the odds or likelihood about that, at leas in the case of Miller.

Miller has always been pretty good about sending parts or even sending a repair tech to do on-site repair. Considering many of their machines require a forklift or crane to move, it really makes sense. Of course I did have to wait months once to get a board from them, for warranty on a syncrowave 300.

And I've somehow suspected that Miller and Lincoln probably cater more to or do accomodate their "commercial" customers more than with the little guys. But maybe that suspicion of mine is baseless.

However, I think it's fair to say, with the example within this very thread and others like it on this Everlast forum, that Everlast has an established record of taking care of us little guys too... even the semi-unappreciative ones too, ha, ha, ha...
