Weird noise coming from 200dx

So i just picked up a 200dx dual voltage tig welder complete with water cooler from Duncan at Everlast Canada. So far machine is working great besides this odd sound that seems to be coming from the power source. So I get welding in dc and a few minutes into welding at moderate amperage 120-150 the machine begins to make a high pitch beep sound that gets louder and quiter as I throttle the foot pedal. The machine's performance stays the same when the noise is present but doesn't seem right. I contacted Duncan to let him know the issue and said he had never heard of something like this. He said since I was local to bring the machine in for an exchange no problem. Load up the machine and head up to Duncan's place. I get there we hook up the machine,weld with it for 15 plus minutes, different amperages and NO NOISE! Exactly what I thought was goin to happen. Duncan suggested maybe it was the torch so off I went with a new torch back home with my original machine. Hook it back up and new torch doesn't make a difference, the noise is still there. We both are stumped. The welder is setup in a semi-detached brand new house with 40amp service(40 amp breaker, direct wire into the panel).I also have a Miller diversion 165 that works perfectly fine with same power. Any help/feedback is greatly appreciated as I would like to get to the bottom of this. Thanks

Gee,

Maybe it's an intermittent fan noise?

That's my guess. And I'd probably try to put some finger pressure on the vanes or spindles, to see if it helps the fan bearings to seat in or find a better balance.

I don't think it's a coming from the fan because the fan is always on as soon as the welder is powered up at a consistent speed . It will only make the noise when you are actually welding.

Are you using pulse?
There can be an electronic squeal from high pulse frequencies. Apart from that, it might be input power related, depending on the voltage supplied and any noise on the line. Some of the inductors can make noise, too. Hard to say without hearing it. Since it changes with the pedal I doubt it's anything with the fan or vibration induced noise. If it really bothers you, I'm sure Duncan will exchange it.

Not using pulse, just foot pedal to control amperage, I also used the supplied finger trigger both making the noise. The finger control made a constant beep since amperage is set to the panel. I also brought the welder to my parents place which I used for the last 8 years for welding/fabrication with different machines and made the noise so I'm starting to think its not input power related.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the input power, just that there might be a combination of conditions that are leading to this noise. If it didn't make the noise at Duncan's, than the main difference is the input power. (apart from air pressure and temperature differences) It probably has no effect on the machine other than producing the noise. It could be something as simple as vibrating plates in the laminated core of a choke, that wasn't potted all that well. Without knowing what frequency it is, or hearing it, it's hard to venture anything more than a wild αss guess.

Missed the video while I was posting. That is an unusual noise. Not what I was expecting. Pretty hard to hear over the fan and such, but it's there for sure. I'm sure you can hear it a lot better in person. Not a clue as to what cause something like that. Couldn't really hear any difference as the amperage changed.

That sound made my teeth hurt!! This is a long shot but could it be a cold solder joint on a circuit board?

Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Is it the welder, torch or pedal? If it's the welder you can take the cover off and see if you can narrow it down to where in the welder. It may be the HF staying on. On the 255ext the HF board is in the front of the machine under the main control board. It's a solid state board that lights up blue when the HF is on. You can see the light through the front of the machine vents. I don't know if the 200DX is exactly the same, but should be similar.

I will be exchanging the machine for a new one in a few days.

Is there any resolve to this issue, i recently purchased a powertig 185 dv and it too makes this high pitched sound. The sound is not always there, comes inconsistantly and is somewhat related to the footpedal as it changes volume when the pedal is depressed. Doesn't occur in AC.
