Has anyone used one of these on a CNC table with an AVHC? How was cut quality? Consumable life? General reliability of the unit? I'm getting ready to start the build of a 5' x 10' table and have been considering this machine. Is the duty cycle close to accurate? TIA
Does anyone respond to these threads? Seems like this forum is hardly used.

I can not help you with the cnc info. I have a pp60 and I can say that the duty cycle on it seems to be what is claimed. If you want max tip life make sure you have height control on your new table. With that you should have no more tip concerns than you would with any other brand of plasma. I have looked at several brands of plasmas and I believe Everlast has as good or better duty cycle on their units.
My new table will have a height controller and magnetic torch breakaway. I currently have a Torchmate 2x2 with the Lincoln Tomahawk 625 which has been a great machine but I need more amperage and a better duty cycle, especially once I get my new table up and running. My main concern is cut quality, duty cycle accuracy and product durability. Don't want something that's gonna break down quickly or often and some of the Chinese made stuff does just that.Quote:

Mark; Just a heads up on the PP80s web page. The duty cycle is stated to be 60% at 60 amps on the page but when I opened the PDF for the manual it states it to be 60% at 80 amps. I think the main PP80S page info needs to be corrected. I am sure the 80 amp rating is the correct one.Quote:

I bought my machine from a local builder who ripped me off and the mechanics were horrible (huge play in the axis, poor electronic, blah blah blah) ,so bad that I haven't been able to dial in anything perfectly. I have done a bunch of decorative stuff for gardens where kerf angle and such doesn't mater and it has been good. Just now gtting it accurate to my liking.
That being said, I do wish I went with another well known brand (we know who it is!!) because Everlast doesn't even have cut setting recommendations just to ball park start up or someone who has been tweaking these machines for years to bounce problems off.
Sorry, but something in Your reply isn't adding up and is all over the place with a bunch of gaps in your story. Bought from a local builder..isn't working... but then it is, but not to your liking, mechanics were horrible, blah, blah. First it sounds like you bought a system second hand and there are issues all over the place. Second you say you were ripped off by a builder. Have no idea, but that sounds fishy all over to begin with here. Third Kerf angle can vary depending upon the direction of use, especially when cutting holes, where angularity is increased.

Sorry if I was confusing, It was late and was sitting beside the machine for 2hrs as I typed that trying to dial in everything to get great cuts on 14g so I can complete a dash panel for a Ford 3Window I've been contracted to build.
My veiws may change as I cut on more, but you never hear of an unhappy customer of the other guys, and happy people when they switch.
I understand your frustration, but that is the case with most things like this. Virtually any kind of CNC, from mills and lathes to plasma and waterjet cutters all have a learning curve and require skills beyond just running the code. There are charts and software to give you some basic guidelines for speeds and feeds, and the actual torch and consumables you use is more a factor than what brand power supply is feeding it. Also a lot has to do with expectations, this is still a melt and blow process. While it can be cleaner than a torch cut, it will never equal a laser or waterjet. And each person has there own ideas of what they are looking for. Some want highest production speed and will trade finish and accuracy, think making BBQ parts that will be MIG welded together. Others want a smooth finish in the same material and will trade time for that. Another might want super low heat input to minimize distortion. Same material, but different settings to reach different goals. People that get super low distortion precision plasma cuts in thin sheet metal have usually spent considerable time learning their equipment and tuning things. One thing that makes a big difference is the acceleration differences between servos and steppers. The ability of the torch to travel at the exact same speed throughout the cut makes a big difference. Steppers usually can't do that, so you have to try to compensate either though CAM options or tweaking the final g-code to make up for things. The right software can help, but there is no substitute for an experienced operator who is very familiar with that particular machine.
Is this local builder someone who sells to the general public or just someone local who builds tables for a hobby and you took a chance on his product? I've also been considering getting a table from a local and he's actually suppose to be building me the kit right now but I haven't paid in a penny yet and haven't heard from him in over a month so at this point I'm not out anything.
