I've been checking out the gas saver kits that c/k offers and they look good, my question to you that may be using it, is would you recommend them. My main focus on buying these kits is for the extra stick out of the tungsten. Keep in mind I'm new to tig welding would this be an assets it me ? Or help to make it some what more comfortable. What would you recommend on buying extra pieces of ? Cups , collets ?
I know they offer The kits in glass and regular cup material (can't recall the name).
Arc-Zones kit has most everything you'd need to get started (w/glass cup). I think it was around $100 but, I've really liked having it ;)
There's also a Long pyrex cup I later got and liked for getting into tight corners too (along with increased stick-out). It's been a new experience to actually be able to look "thru" the cup and watch the puddle sometimes!
I will definitely be checking that kit out .

i haven't made a purchase yet, gathering some money! this stuff can get expensive fast:O
I fund my tools and garage stuff with automotive side jobs, so i'am going to gather a good 300 bucks and purchase Jody's TIG FINGER, arc-zones gas saver kit which comes with the Pyrex cups !pretty good deal!, different filler rods and a few 10 packs of 2% lathanated tungsten in different sizes to accommodate the gas saver. still have to buy a nice welding cart or make one.

Frank, I don't know where you are welding or how you're doing it, but if you are seeking more comfort, don't dismiss the simple things like a comfy seat that is low to the ground, a high work surface that allows your hands and wrists to rest on the edge of your work surface while allowing your elbows to point down, and a clear (close) view of what's going on while you are welding. The hunched over posture you would use for washing the dishes in your sink won't fly for learning to tig.
I can't say the Pyrex cups don't intrigue me a little, however, I don't have them high on my priorities list since it's an expense I never wanted to afford. I don't think you need much in the way of torch consumables, but a few spare insulators, collets, collet bodies, and a back cap or 2 would certainly be needed for emergencies (like when you drop or catch the torch back cap on something while uncoiling it from the welding cart, and it breaks). Ceramic cups are the exception since you can use many different ones, and they are generally inexpensive. A gas lens setup would be worth having too, along with the stubby front end kit.
Pyrex cups aren't going to make you into an instant welder, but they might help you out a small amount. I wouldn't count on them to work miracles though. The learning curve for tig welding can be steep, so it's just one of those things you have to go through. Good luck!
OH Yea! The first time you carelessly break a Pyrex cup it hits you pretty hard...
They're expensive and I've learned to be Much more careful where, and how, I put the torch down ;)
But not more careful that I Should be with Any torch. It's just good procedure and, other than mishandling, they last a long time.
