help deciding 140st
Hi guys, I've been lurking for a month or so trying to get all the info I can. I'm looking at the 140 or 140st for around my property. It would be used mostly for repairing the iron work fence and gates on the property (some galvanized). As it is over an acre there are many places where i would have to run up to 100 ft of extension for power (10guage with high amp ends). Would the 140 be appropriate for my needs o
r should i be looking at the 200st? This is of course assuming i can get one in Puert Rico. I see that the shipping policies have changed on the new website. Thanks.

Sorry so wordy...
Recap...
Use: fence and repair at home
Metal: tube syeel, iromworks some galvanized
Distance to outlet: up to 100 ft
Breaker size: 110v 30 amp (could use dryer outlet too)
welder choices: 140st or 200st (need dual voltage)

It depends more on what you are welding. Either machine will be power limited when running on 120 volts, to under 100 amps. If that will do the job for your thickness of metal, then they will do fine. 240 volt power will give you a slightly longer reach with 10ga. cord. This is based on stick welding. For shipping or air freight, the difference in weight, between them, might be a big deal.

The metal is mostly around 1/8" thick. At some points i will have access to a 240v outlet on a 50 amp breaker.
Others I could reach with the 240v dryer outlet. Some will require 120v, but i figure the material is thin enough that it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm not very experienced, but given the size of the property, the cost of having someone else do it, and the quality of the work I've had done in the past, I figured I may as well learn a new skill.

Shipping policies are the same on the old site. PR, and anything out of the lower 48 are different.

1/8" is no problem on 120 volts. The 140 can handle that with ease. As you said, it will probably pay for itself with just a few repairs. Ornamental iron with 6013 or 7014 3/32" electrodes works well. With a little practice, you can just give the welds a quick wire brushing and go right to paint.

Thanks guys. I'm sure I will be here a lot as I work through the learning curve.
