200 dx welding stick problems

hey all, has any one that owns a everlast power tig 200 dx ever used it in stick mode? ive done tons of stick welding on other machines but oddly when i tried this unit for stick the electrodes would turn orange while welding :S Can any one shed some light on why this would happen? using 1/8 7018 on dc positive

No reason to look at the machine,,,,more likely the rods are contaminated...7018 rods can suck up moisture really fast...the change of color is probably due to sweating out...as you use them..

I have used mine stick welding with a lot of different rods, Some rods require oven storage and some do not !, your situation is a common one that i have seen for years moisture from humidity or another source.
I had an employee that was running some 7018 rods that evidently had some solvent or oil on them . The flux was nasty green colored and the weld poor.
