My Take on an Ideal Welder Cart

Hi everyone. I have been lurking a while, and decided I should probably contribute to the community and see if I can provide any helpful information or ideas.

Anyway, this is a cart I built for my Everlast 200DX TIG and Power MIG 205P.

Phase 1:
I used it this way for a while, because I just needed to organize the mess of welder components, and this took care of that. It still needed more...

Phase 2:
I added a top shelf to the cart so that I can store a few other items on top and out of the way. I added a hinge to it, though, so I can swing it out of the way for MIG wire reloads. I also added some wheel plates and wheels, many hanging pegs, and a hook to hang my TIG pedal.

Phase 3:
I noticed that when I used the cart, and hung the grounds and torches from the pegs, that they would swing and hit the side of the welders. That was unacceptable. So, I added expanded metal barriers for them to hit instead, it also gives the cart a more finished look. I think at this point, all I need to do to finish this cart is add some TIG wire storage. That will come in phase 4.

Nice cart. How does it work with all four wheels articulating? I wish mine was like that sometimes, can spin it in place and navigate a bit better I am sure. I would not put too much in the top shelf for make easy to unload stuff.

I am just trying to build a little fab shop out of my two car garage. It's difficult working in small spaces like this, as I am sure many of you know. So, wheels are of the essence! I like the 4 articulating wheels because I can push it wherever I want, without needing to do a 3 point turn to move it a few inches to the left or right. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hello. Nice!! What size Square Tubing did you use? Did you use a 3/16 or 1/4" Plate for the wheel mounts? I am thinking about making one. Problem is, I don't have much in the way of Metal supply(Or welding) stores in my area. HD or Lowes are right down the street. Tractor Supply is a bit further.

Steel sells on the commodity markets (like gas or oil or pork bellies), so the prices fluctuate from day to day. (At least, this is what my supplier tells me.) So if you go to buy the same piece of steel on two different days you're likely to pay different prices. Lowes and Home Depot can't keep track of the daily price changes and they charge very high prices so they don't accidentally sell at a loss.

You might check your phone book for "steel suppliers" instead- and there are suppliers such as onlinemetals.com that *can* be a resource, but shipping costs can be prohibitive. Some scrap yards will let you browse around to find treasures before they're melted down, but that varies from place to place because of insurance liability.
