Even if 40 would do, why not just spend the few extra bucks and put in a 50? If you ever upgrade to something bigger, the circuit to handle it will already be there.
Max running amps for the i-mig 205 is around 20A so you are definitely safe putting in a 40A but if you are putting in a new service definitely put in the 50A like redbeard suggested. For example you might want to put in a plasma cutter and 220v air compressor on that line and both may very well run simultaneously.
Lets not forget the purpose of a breaker which is to trip if the normal load is exceeded. Max load for the 205 is 34 amps according to the manual so a 40 amp breaker should be fine.
That is inrush current, the full load amps are only 20 so there is some merit to running a 30 amp breaker, for the most equipment protection.
To get the best of future expansion and the most protection, run a 50 amp circuit to a small sub panel in the garage, then you can divide that as your needs dictate, both now, and in the future.
