That is some quick work on the video;)
You did a good job on that video Winky, but I can't understand how that takes you 15 minutes to make! I'm jealous of your video making skills!;) It takes me practically half a day to make 2 measly videos! And that wasn't including any editing, which I still have to learn one of these days!
I like the scorpion idea using chain, but I have don't have any leftover chain. Perhaps I could substitute VW parts in the place of the chain? I have a million of those left over from my cars!:D You think a stepmother would appreciate a scorpion over copper and stainless roses for next year's Valentine's Day? Yeah, me neither!
The reason I was able to do it so quickly was because I only had a couple false starts and was able to get everything in pretty much one take … the fact that I studied TV production in collage helped. When it comes to making art out of junk … whatever you find and can see with your mind’s eye will work … be sure that if what UR welding is plated w/ zinc you grind off the galvanization or at very least have good ventilation with fans blowing the fumes away … I will sometimes weld nuts and bolts that are galvanized but I hold my breath and step off after I tack them until the fumes are gone. As far as your step mom liking scorpions lol some do some don’t ... I do have old ladies ask me to make them ... honest.
Studied TV production? So basically you cheated on making that video by knowing more than I do (the bar isn't too high here-I'm working at a 3rd grade level with my "video production"):D! Seriously though, I found that during the first 2 movies I made, false starts are really timing consuming (especially when the camera battery dies)! After about the 4th start, I just told myself "Just record this video, and whatever comes out during the filming is what they will see!"
I'm TIG welding everything right now so removing the zinc coating (or any coating) is a must! I am still getting some areas where the arc jumps, pops, and spits back, but I suspect that's from the flap wheel being worn down and not removing all the coating, or being so packed with zinc contamination (or both). Most of the areas weld nicely. I use the blower that is built into the wall most of the time when I'm welding and grinding, and it really works well.
My stepmother would NOT like a scorpion as a gift. If I could make a puppy, she would gladly accept that gift instead!
It's hard to get a good ground on a puppy. The high frequency will dance around, but the main arc doesn't want to start. Also if you don't grind off the fur, it can catch fire like the chain and smells real bad, so you should use a respirator. ;)
Put it on a bun with some mustard....thems good eatin!

Also if you use the flap disc on different metals you will transfer from one type to the next so keep ... TIG is so fussy about contamination … I’m sure you’re already aware of that … most critical with aluminum and ss. The windows movie maker is really a breeze to use and is free ... if it makes any difference I haven’t been in college since 1983 and haven’t used a video camera until recently. ;)
