Imig 200 Test

I brought my Imig 200 to work for my friend. All galvanized schedule 40 pipe 4" and 6", these are going to Texas just a few miles from the Mexico border. They will be going around well heads and barbed wire will be added to keep cows away from the well heads. I believe it's safe to call this over kill! I let some of the other welders try out my Imig 200, and they were all impressed. It's hard for some to believe a welder this small can put out this kind of heat! I believe their 220 outlet is on a 50 amp breaker.

I welded all day long with my Imig 200. I did stop to flip, move, fit, and help other people flip and move. I ran a complete 10lb spool of .35 wire through the welder today. I have ran more wire through larger welders in day, but I think for a dual voltage 200 amp welder a 10lb spool is impressive. I never bumped the duty cycle, but I did have some pauses throughout the day. Another welder gave my Imig a try and could not believe it! The welder performed solid all day long running on 220v 40 or 50 amp breaker.

These frames are placed along the fence line, I can't remember how far apart they are set. I believe the barbed wire will be terminated on one side and attached/started to the other.

All the frames will be set 3' deep in concrete, and inside the pipe will be filled with concrete. They do not want them to go anywhere! It's all a bit overkill for a barbed wire fence!

That's quite a bit of pipe! It's really cool that you were able to use the Everlast MIG in an industrial type setting and it did what you "asked" it to do all day! What's better is the fact you might have converted some of the other guys there over to Everlast welders.

My knees, back, and feet would NOT handle that abuse all day of kneeling down or standing up. I used to do that stuff at work for 8 hours a day (when I had to), but I think I'm getting softer, weaker, or just less tolerant. I know I'm certainly not getting any smarter! It's too bad you couldn't do some of the smaller assemblies (even just the "L"s) flat on a table so you could sit and give your knees a chance to rest.

Great welds on that pipe! That's one heck of a barbed wire fence...but everything is bigger in Texas (or so they say).;)

I agree I bet some of the guys at the beginning were thinking "let's see how long this Chinese junk will make it" I bet by the end they were all impressed (even if they didn't admit it)... you know if it isn't red, blue, blah blah blah bull crap. Well they need to revise their list and add Everlast Green to it!

We run a IMIG-200 pretty hard as well, thinking about a second one. We do aluminum in a spool gun as well on hurricane shutters. FYI: 30amp breaker will run it for most jobs. We also use it on a 5500 watt porter cable generator and go mobile with flux-core wire. Great little machine. Just can not get rid of it do to size, power and mobile jobs.

How thick of aluminum can you weld with the spool gun using your IMIG-200, Mike? I like that it runs off a 5500 watt genny for portability!

Based off a tig welder I would say 1/4" but that's a guess.

That's in the ballpark for what I was thinking too. All the other Spool guns that I've welded aluminum with in school were all 250 amps or more (and I don't remember machine settings from yesterday, let alone 10 years ago!).
