You could try coating them with Pam, or setting up some kind of spatter shield. I'm guessing you don't want to cover them up while welding?

What kind of windows are you welding near? A window in a home or building new enough to be metal, old enough to require maintenance / repair... just trying to work it out.

I typically cover with cardboard cut to fit and taped down. If close enough to the weld to char, I use welding blankets. S/F.....Ken M

I second that. Are you worried about messing up the glass itself or the frame of the window? There are anti spatter sprays that you can pick up from the local welding store, but they are pretty much just a spray on lubricant, and if you're worried about the window frames I don't think it would help much. When I need to protect something from weld spatter I usually put a few layers of heavy duty aluminum foil over it... It won't hold up to heavy weld spatter, but works great for light stuff.

question... Does weld spatter stick to glass itself or damage it? I really don't know, I've never worked up against a window.

Welding Blankets is the only way to go if you have room if not try damp blankets.

The Glass is Very Brittle so I will leave it in Situ and Workover around it

Then for sure I would TIG for a spatter free weld. I thought you might be talking about your shop windows. If you want to MIG, anyway, then just cover them with sheet metal, to be sure.

I'd be concerned with igniting the seal/sealant and/or thermal shocking old brittle glass. It'd suck to spend the time only to have it shock at the last minute. If it were me, I'd use soaking wet towels, you see steam, you stop.

Heating and welding and working on the area around the glass will hat up and expand the metal and distort the shape of the window frame. It does *not* take ask that much to crack the glass (if it's tempered glass it will explode into a shower of glass pieces).
The glass will have to come out... One way or the other. Plus you need to inspect those window frames! It's a common place for rust damage and un skilled panel repair and needs to be checked out to do a job properly.
