Vertical Up Tig Weld W/185 Micro on 11 Ga Aluminum

Thought i would try something today , I did some Heliarc a long time ago like this and wanted to see if my bad nerves and shaky extremities could be steady enough to run uphill .

Used the foot pedal to add the extra heat to get the puddle started. Machine set at 110 backed of to around 95 amps after the heat built up.I did several different setups and techniques. Dipping the rod gave you a wider puddle than i wanted and did not let you burn into the corner enough for my liking. The best result were from pushing the rod into the puddle at a steady rate which gave me about a 1/4" fillet weld. Weld penetration was good as in the middle of the left hand upright i actually burnt thru.

Material 11 ga

Rod 3/32 4043

Gas at 15 CFM

Tungsten 3/32" W/ 3/8" stickout beyond nozzle

Nozzle Size 7

AC balance 30% ( if i am reading it right)

AC Frequency 200

It may not look like much to some of you but it gives me a little more knowledge on the settings with the PowerTig Micro 185 for this type of application.

Tried something a little different this morning, dropped amps to 95 no pedal, did some different vertical up and down welds with 1/16" Filler and 3/32". Pulled the tungsten back to about 1/4".

All freehand no rests done while sitting.

The corner joint was done with 3/32, Butt joint was 1/16", edge or lap joint with 3/32" turned the balance down a little also.
I ran a couple of beads down also to see how the puddle did, feeding the filler from the bottom did not produce as nice a weld as feeding it from the back.

Would like to some time try this with a pulse machine and maybe a different type wave also.

Starting to get used to the balance more as it is backwards from anything else if have tried in the past few years.
