I'm working on a project and I need to speed up the rust process.
My thought was some type of acid but I want to make sure it looks natural and not weird.
Any chemists out there? Any ideas?

Bring it to PA and sit it outside...it will rust fast...
Might try some salt on it, but it isn't going to look natural in any short time. Oxalic Acid might work as well. It would still take a fair amount of time. Pretty much any quick method will probably either look too even o won;t be "deep" enough to look real once you wash off all of the deposits form teh chemicals (like salt).

Thanks for the links!
I making a metal art "rat rod" and I want it to look either rusty all over or, paint it, then sand down the paint so the metal shines through in spots and then make those spots rust. My actually be better off just letting it sit outside for awhile... Definitely need to do some test panels to see how it looks.
Try looking at the following:

Not saying the following will be feasible for you but saw a program on TV that discussed how they accelerate the "aging" process for Ford vehicles to test them before they hit the market.
Salt bath
Very high humidity (> 90%)
High Temperature (122 F)
Overnight
Get a bottle of regular Hydrogen Peroxide and after you scuff it to bare metal just "Paint" it on- Keep applying until you get the patina you want.
Vimegar will give you a flash rust.
Thanks for all the links, helps out a bunch!
"Sneak peek".... Started out as an idea when I put some cutoff's together...

Cool idea! When I first read about your project, I wasn't quite sure what you had in mind. Nice to see there is some method to your madness! LOL Should turn out really nice. Good luck and cheers!
Yeah... I kind of fly by the seat of my pants sometimes..lol.
This won't be to scale or anything but I'm working on the flat head V8 right now and I want to make a real looking radiator shell that will be polished. Just something to kill time when I'm not busy. :)
Looks cool, cant wait to see how it turns out.
