Grinder stand - Project #1

I thought I would post this grinder stand I made a few months back. I had picked up this grinder at a yard sale and it was just lying about. I also had a 34" piece of 3" heavy wall pipe left over, as well as a foot of small 1.5 " channel stock, and about a square foot of 3/8" plate. I made all cuts on this project using the PP60. I cut the channel in three equal sections, then traced out an ovall shape on the plate eight inches by 11 inches and cut. I smoothed the plate on the sander and then welded it to the pipe. Next I drilled a whole in each section of channel on the drill press and then welded them on the stand as a base. I then put on about two and a half coats of Rustoleum primer (one whole can). I plan on bolting it to the floor, just have not gotten around to it yet.

This project was enjoyable to build and, and I think it came out real nice. Not only was I able to get the grinder off the bench but I was able to use up some odd scrap and get it out of the way by turning it into a useful tool. All in all a great way to spend an evening after work.

Looks good. What are the plans for the base? Bolt it down to the floor or something heavy to be able to move it? It's always nice to turn scrap into something you can use, tool or otherwise. Yesterday, simple as it sounds, I made a hanging shelf for a tool box side mount to hold spray cans that sit on the tool box and a vertical paper towel holder. Took no real time and since made of steel, it will last for a long time.

Nice idea! If it were mine, I'd grab a handful of 1/4" or 3/8" bolts or some rod, weld them up and down opposite sides 7" apart, hang grinding wheels, wire wheels, etc. on the stand. Maybe a place to set a water tray on the front to cool bits of stuff you're grinding.

Here is a pedestal I build some time back I made a few for different tools (grinder, belt sander, bead roller, Ect). It’s a 15” truck wheel with a pipe welded to it in the center and wheel and handle added for transport to where I want to use it. It’s filled with 80 lbs of concrete. I welding 3 tabs on the bottom (1/4” flat stock 1’” long) to make it stable on uneven floors works great.

Would you share a shot of the tabs? Not following, are they like feet? Are the wheels welded on or does that part slide into the rim?

The tabs are feet I place them about 120 degrees apart, on uneven floors 3 feet work better then 4. The wheel are welded on, in the picture you can see a handle. I move it around like a hand truck just tip it back and roll. The wheel are off the ground when grinder is in use only the feet touch the ground.
