The Green Hornet Has Arrived

Yesterday I got home to find a box on the porch from EVERLAST. First thing I noticed, the Box was in relatively good condition. Side note: I ordered a Optima battery delivered by FedRex (Fed Wrecks) the box was destroyed but the battery was ok. Usually the first thing I notice from now on is box condition. I was then surprised to notice it wasn't as heavy as I expected. I quickly unboxed my green hornet to find it in excellent condition. I then inventoried the parts and began to assemble the moisture separator. I didn't like the way the air tube connections threaded into the body of the separator, the separator on my compressor is connected in the same fashion and the hose fittings are tapered pipe thread and seal well. These fittings bottomed against the hex above the threads which makes me think the separator body was tapped too deep, or the hose fittings are incorrect. I will be testing out some of my line fittings to see if they fit any better. At this point I am not able to spark an arc yet as I am still awaiting the arrival of my air compressor moisture trap. Once that’s in I'll mount and connect it. In the mean time I will be stopping at the local Home Depot to purchase a plug to match my 220v outlet.

I can't wait to try this machine. I installed an ARB rear locker in my Tacoma and will mount the air compressor in the engine bay once I fab a mounting plate that will be my first project. Then a friend needs a blank flange for a project on his fox body mustang. After that - - - well I won't bother you all with that but I'm guessin the to do list will grow.

Any day a delivery arrives and it hasn't been torn apart, dropped or otherwise broken by a courier is a good day in my books! LOL Glad to hear you received your green hornet and can't wait to hear about how your projects progress.

I've got a bunch of things on my welding to-do list but it looks like summer is leaving us fast. I'm going to need to hook up a light if I want to do any welding after work. I'm in the northwest. Grey skies and rain will be with me in no time.

I think all those fittings are bspp with no o-ring or crush washer rather than npt since they always bottom out with no resistance... Ref http://www.ralstoninst.com/news/the-...and-bspt-seals

Nice link, I'm just not sure it's the better connection. After doing some net searching, it seems you can thread NPT into BSPP however it will thread in deeper. I will wrap the threads with teflon tape and see if they seal better than the O-ring does.

I put an npt male in all of mine and it works fine... just don't over tighten, it could crack the aluminum especially with teflon tape.

Thanks Zoama, by the way I want to wire the unit for 220v and currently have a stand alone receptacle (6-50R) on a 40amp breaker, will this circuit be sufficient for max voltage/amperage cutting?

On all our units there is a spec table/matrix on the back of right side (looking from the back). The imax will be there. If 40 or less you are good. I have ran 42 amp unit on 40 amp breakers. But check the max current on the side. White silkscreen.
