Just out of curiosity has anyone here ever TIG welded a HVAC lineset? Usually they are brazed with an oxy/ace torch... but I would think TIG would be a possible alternative.

I my self oxy/ace torch all my ac fittings and evap or condenser repair , tig is hard to control on thin aluminum tubing http://www.muggyweld.com/?view=sitemap
I was thinking for the line sets. Copper to copper or brass to copper. Not Aluminum.
i like the ssf-6 rod . or just regular brazing rod
Remember you can also braze with TIG, no flux needed, I've done that a lot on steel, parts with silicon bronze rod. I even soldered some copper plumbing fittings once with a TIG torch as there was no other source of heat around. So for copper, with TIG, you can solder, braze or weld. Brass can be tricky cause the zinc can boil out, it all depends on the particular alloy. Some are weldable, some not.
you can tig but i think welding with gas works better since even heat and sorta hard to sweat with a tig

lol tried tig welding some beer cans together , now that hard . we need to have a welding soda or beer can together contest lol

Brazing copper tube with a rosebud or a cutoff tip using Sil-Fos 15% silver alloy is the more common method and TIG welding might work well too but you would have a harder time visually determining the copper pipe temperature.
Yea that is what I do but figured TIG might give better welds and be cheaper in the long run.
I would love to see that. Im guessing it takes a lot of practice. Humm... Time to hit youtube.
