My Powermaster 256 arrived today!

My Powermaster 256 arrived in Soldotna, Alaska today! I am in Prudhoe Bay right now. My wife and the UPS lady had to wrestle it over to the house; the UPS lady didn't know what it was and she asked Nelma if she wanted to put it in the living room ;-D Nelma, who knew EXACTLY what is was, suggested that they just put it in the garage!

I'm really anxious to get home and try it out. I'm pleased that Everlast suggested the upgrade when I placed the order. I have never welded anything in my life but I'm prepared to learn; our community college has some good welding classes (we live in oil country) and I know a lot of welders who are willing to share their knowledge.

I'll report back after I get home. I hope the unit arrived in one piece -- we experience a lot of shipping damage here in Alaska.

Hi Mike,

I spoke with Oleg and he confirmed that he will be shipping me a new plastic front-panel. The one on the unit arrived shattered.

Could I suggest that someone on our end of "the pond" revise the instruction manual.

Like several other folks, I was confused with the AC wiring set-up. What are your recommendations concerning a circuit breaker for this unit? Since the plug that accompanied the unit was a 20 amp plug, I based my decision to purchase a 240 V breaker, plug and receptacle on this assumption but it sounds like that may not have been wise.

I can't speak for everyone but I suspect that more novice welders might be attracted to this product than to Millers and Lincolns because of price considerations. If that's true, you guys probably need to take the time to generate some documentation that's geared for guys like me who don't know anything about welding. This way, the product introduction will be more successful and you'll have to do less in the way of tech support.

The manuals are online. They have been revised, but are being updated to include the newer units. Operation is very similar though. All of the spec informatin is on the rear of the machine. You can get the "official" information right from there. Look for the max. amps listed under the icons. If you have a breaker to cover that amperage, then you are on target. Always read the labels on the machines, or any machine for that matter, all the information is right there.

The manuals will be forthcoming soon. I apologize for the wait. It will be a combination manual as the units share the same features. If your unit does not have it, then it simply is to be ignored. The functions will be basically the same unless there is a notation otherwise. This is the way we have to keep it simple and to the point.

As I posted before, they were ready to publish and put on the new site, when the computer caught a virus and I had to reload windows and lost all the new updates. Fortunately, I had sent some of the original pub files to Mike so, I won't have to start over completely with most things. I had a a hundred hours of hard work in the originals, so it is a relief that Mike is the e- equivalent of a pack rat. It'll take a few days to do them again and I will get them up, hopefully after the new site is up and running. Most people have gotten things straight using the older manuals, but I agree, it needs to be done soon, but I can assure you, I am working on it and it will be done soon.

Mark Its to bad that a virus took hold, bet you spend some cash on a backing-up system. It will be nice to see the new manual.
