Max roll size is 12 pounds. When I bought a 12# roll it installed just fine, with no adapters. What are you working with?
The metal plates have a depressed center which go into the sides of the roll. Be sure to put plenty of tension on the spring...but not too much.
Plate or plates? I only have an outer disc that is depressed so I guess I'm missing one? maybe thats why it doesn't roll so well....Quote:

You should have an inner one as well WHERE the rod is bolted on that holds the small spool. It is fixed to the side of the welder.
