air dessicant dryer and quick disconnects

Hey guys -

I wanted to share how I set my Super200P up for switching between TIG (with argon shielding gas) and plasma cutting.

First, for quick changing of compressed air and argon, I modified the barbed nipple of the gas inlet of my Super200P so its an air line quick disconnect instead. I did this so I can hook the argon up straight to the welding unit, not having to purge through (or possibly get contaminated by) the dryer. I did this by removing the barbed solenoid inlet fitting from the unit, grinding down the barbs, and then soldering on a quick disconnect fitting that I found which fit nicely over the nipple.

I also ditched the cheap clear vinyl hose supplied with the welder for much better rubber fuel line. Now I want to replace the vinyl inside the unit as well. The very cheap hose clamps supplied with the unit I also found failed and so I replaced them with more sturdy ones.

I found the inside of my plasma cutting consumables seem to be lasting a lot longer after adding in an inline dessicant dryer.

However, that problem may have also been solved by my holding the cutting tip off the workpiece. (I was having trouble seeing what I was doing before when I was plasma cutting with my auto-darkening shade 9 welding helmet, which is too dark for plasma cutting!) I've got some shade 5 gas welding goggles I'll be trying for my next plasma cutting project.

Just sharing how I modified my Everlast setup so that it works for me.

Back when we sold the Super200P, this was a very common mod.

A lot better mod, a lot of guys had a "Y" connector and two ball valves hard connected.

We've planned to add that "Y" connector in the future on our multi-function models.

The 1/4 NPT connectors will work, just make sure they are good quality so the argon does not seep out at the lower pressure.

We have been including a small dryer for some time as well.
