Hi,
I'm doing some planning to build a small enclosure from mild steel - stick welded together. Anyone out there with any sources of weldable hinges? I know I've seen some that were reasonably priced (project is on a low budget) but stupid me, I didn't bookmark the site and now I can't remember where it was.

Any hardware store / Home Deep / Lowes (or Walmart, or even Albertson's grocery for that matter) would have some manner of steel hinges. Are you looking for something specific, maybe something without the rust-proofing?

Actually, I should have looked them up as posixPilot pointed me out to them for some security screws - just never got around to seeing what else they had to offer. from the source that sportbike pointed me to. I'm a newbie welder so the skinny profile of these have me a bit concerned. I'd be more comfortable welding a tab as opposed to welding so close to the hinge pin - at least until I get some experience and understand my limitations a bit better (which I hope this project will do). I haven't looked at all of the products from this supplier but most of them have tabs larger than 1" so I'll keep looking for now. If I need to, I guess I can weld then grind the overhang off.

I've got some preliminary quotes on steel tubing. 3/4 SQ tube, 3/32 inch thick. I like those 29/64" bullet hinges. Hope I can weld those on and not screw up the alignment of the pins ....Quote:

Those are pretty nice. Brass pins with a grease fittings. For my project, I'll go with some plain jane versions. Good to know they will be a bit loose. Need them to be gentle on me in case I make some mistakes .... :PQuote:
