CGCINC Project #7: Bicep/Tricep machine

I've been working on this off and on for a few weeks and it's finally done!
This is a plate loaded, adjustable arm, Bicep and Tricep workout machine. I have a few pieces of equipment from Body Solid and wanted to buy this but thought it would be a good learning experience so I built it.

I didn't have any type of plans to go off of and the only measurements I had were the overall length x width x height. The one Good tool I did have was a picture of the one that is for sale so I could look at it and get what I needed. Only thing I added to the original machine is a weight plate rack on the front of the machine. I just wanted to keep a few plates close to the machine and didn't want another plate tree taking up space.
There were a lot of little steps along the way and pieces that needed to be made or altered so I'm just going to post the pics and if you have any questions just ask!

I had to find the pivot point for my elbow so I used my 4' level and some tape..

I needed some spacers and couldn't find any the size I needed so I made some..
3/4" washers with the center welded together and then cut out with a hole saw.

Wow that turned out great I like the "Builit not Bought" sticker that is the icing on the cake. Your workmanship is definitely better than any of the stuff I have see at the gym...

Thanks guys! I couldn't pass that sticker up when I saw it on Ebay...lol

I worked out last night and used this machine instead of my normal Dumbbell curls and I am so freakin sore today. It really works well and it's very smooth with the oil impregnated Brass bushings I used.

That's a great job. Inspirational! And I know how you feel, I've been scraping and spackling a ceiling for three days now..

Very nice work indeed! I like the way you are working around issues, like making your own washers without a lathe! Very impressed!

That is an awesome job, Very nice gym you got there. I used to build all my own equipment, nothing as nice as yours but sold it off when we moved. now I just use Powerblocks and a smith machine I got for less than I could build it.

I bought the white Body Solid Smith machine in the picture With a full set of plates for $300. It's was on Craigslist and I called the guy and said I will be there in one hour!! He had just bought the house and it was in the basement, he had no idea what it was or what it was worth, he just wanted it gone.

I'm planning my next build, a leg extension machine

Sounds like the deal I got, Smith was $200 new discontinued floor model at Sportmart, 300# Oly set with bench and an 80# punching bag $80 Craigslists. I here you on the craigslist thing you gotta jump fast cuz anthing good is gone in minutes.

That is some of the cleanest, nicest looking fab work I have seen in a long time. You should go ahead and build all your own stuff!

Thankyou very much! I just find it hard to justify building All the things I want when you can Always buy it cheaper. But it is cool to be able to say I built it!
