CGCINC Project#6: 1962 Flair stove rolling cart

A friend of the family asked the other day if I would be interested in building a simple cart for an old 1962 Frigidaire Flair oven/stove they have in their basement. Sure, I say! I like to make Stuff!!

The main posts are made out of 2" square tubing and the upper front and sides are made out of 1 1/2" square tubing. The bottom is 1 1/4" Angle and there will be a knotty pine wood shelf resting on the angle and wrapping around and down the front of the stand by 1 1/2". The castors are 3" non marking so they don't mark up the painted floor they have in their basement. I will be painting it a satin black and the wood shelf and wood handle/towel rack will be stained by them to match their cabinets.

First is the brackets for the handle. I drilled the holes then pulse welded them together to cut the angle.

I also welded a piece of 1/8" flat on one side of one of the brackets to act as a stop for the wood dowel.

The hole is just for a screw to hold the dowel in place.

That is a a great cart. I liked your choice to leave one of the handle ends closed and the wood lip over the front of the bottom shelf looks great. I have an unrelated question. how did you get the pictures to show up large in your post, instead of having to use the thumbnails and pop up viewer. I prefer to look at the pic and be able to read about it at the same time so I would like to do my posts the same way.

I upload my pictures to Photobucket and then just copy/paste the image link in my post. You will have to use one of the photo hosting sites like... Photobucket, Imageshack, Flickr, Tinypic.... There are a bunch of them.

I recieved an email saying you posted on here but I do not see your post but I'll answer it from my email...

I drilled a hole in the bracket that is open and I will be screwing a SS screw into the wood through the hole.

What the hell is a flair stove

Very nice what did you cut handle brackets with bandsaw? Cuts look to clean for plasma. Being from florida what the hell is a flair stove? :O:O

This is the 1962 Frigidaire Flair oven/stove that will be sitting on the cart. The cabinet below the slide out burner drawer is what my cart will replace because they do not have that.

Yes, a band saw. I don't have a Plasma....Yet!! :)
I really need to buy a new band saw. This one was a freebie from a friend. He cut through the power cord and the switch was messed up so he was going to throw it away so I rewired it and replaced the switch and it works pretty good, just doesn't cut exactly straight.

Make sure the blade's teeth aren't passing through the rollers. It ruins the blades and makes them cut poorly.

That was just a picture of one off the web. The stove they have was built into a kitchen in a rehab house they worked on so now that they brought it home, they need something for it to sit on and be moveable.

Here's some more details of the project...

I countersunk a small screw to hold the wood handle in place.
On the lower shelf I inset a T nut and then glued and screwed a small strip of wood to hold the T nut in and hide it all. I didn't want to just run a screw into the wood because it would eventually strip out.

Thanks for your help. I have just gotten a reply from a person who does the same thing on Craig's list, I think it makes a big difference, especially on Craig's list because those little pics on there don't get any bigger... please be sure to post a pic of the finished project with the stove installed if you can...

My brother in law helped me deliver it last night and I forgot to take my camera so I doubt I will get a pic with the stove on it. It fit perfect and they were very happy so that's good!

It was such a clean cut I thought you milled it out.
