PowerTig 200LX limited amps problem???

I came back to edit this because I was just reading and wanted to see if I wired it wrong. My wires coming out of the PowerTig are below

Ok I got the NEMA 30/50 amp 4 prong with a 30 amp breaker on my new PowerTig 200LX. I used 4 prong so I can also plug my ovens in the receptacle for powdercoating/heat


Wall plug PowerTig200LX
Green--------->Ground
White---------->White
Black----------> Black
Red------------>No red wire on the Powertig

I power up the machine and the Apms max out to 150 in TIG mode and 118 amps in ARC mode :(.

I thought it was supposed to go to 200 and 160?? Is it because of the 30 amp breaker??

I have not welded with it I just finished wiring it up and powered it on. It is 2:30 in the morning but I was anxious to finally wire it in like a tree at christmas :) ...so ya know.

Not having your machine or looking at your wiring.

I would guess,
Wall plug wiring:
Green--------->Grounding Wire
White---------->White Neutral Conductor
Black----------> Black 230 Volt Hot Leg
Red------------> Red 230 Volt Hot Leg

Potential between Black & White = 120 Volts
Potential between Red & White = 120 Volts
Potential between Black & Red = 230 Volts

So;
I would guess the wiring for the PowerTig200LX plug if only has 3 wires would be:
Green Ground wire to plug blade that corresponds to the ground
White wire used as single phase 230 volt hot leg to a corresponding hot wire
Black wire used as single phase 230 volt hot leg to a corresponding hot wire

If you use the white wire on the PowerTig 250LX cord as a hot leg I would color it with a black magic marker.

30AMPs will not cut it if you want full power. Can you PM me a phone number (or email to support@everlastwelders.com) and I can call and check a couple things, then we come back and post the results.

Now we know that the 250LX can run 120volt at reduced capacity.;)

I talked to Dax,

His shop is wired for 220vac single phase with a neutral (four wires). The unit he has is a single phase unit (three wires).

He has "at the outlet in his shop not the welder" green=ground, white=neutral (not use in our "single phase units"), black=120vac hot and red=120vac. The red and black are 120vac 180 degrees out of phase with each other giving you 220vac between the red and black wires from the outlet. You always hook the green to green (ground). In this case the red and black from the wall to the white and black on the welder.

From the wall to the welder, you can hook black to black and red to white OR black to white and red to black. Cap the neutral/white wire at the outlet.

Our tech bulliten section might confuse people. There is a tech note on how to wire our single/three phase unit to single phase power. Those welders have the same color wires but "do not" wire color to color. So we will add more to the tech bulletins on wiring. But if you are unsure you should use a professional electrician, or one you know; trust me they will have something they need welded.

The tech bulletin covers the 4 wires from our 1/3 phase welders and cutter (with green, white, black, red on our unt) to a 220vac single phase outlet. On our 3 phase units, the white and black are the two hots leads if using single phase. You cap the red on the unit..

Maybe some of our welders "can" run on 110vac for thinner metals since you have a lot less power. The display on the unit will show you the output amps. Also, on a 15 amp breaker. It would be nice to drop to from 20 amps minimum to 5 amps for that thin metal...

I will check this out. I know the smaller cutters will run on 110 or 220vac.

And I am not advising anyone (at this time) to use the unit at 110vac until it is confirmed the fan can cool the unit and the circuits were designed for this. But if so Dax made a nice mistake for some.

I rewired it...and when I turned it on it was like Supercharged! The fans were all blasting air and the minimum amps were 20 instead of 8-9. Yes in the 110v mode I had wired up at first the machine was really quiet...All I could really hear the small fan in the back.
