I own a n everlasting Tig and while the unit works great, the accys(torch/foot pedal/ground/etc..)Rears were extremely cheap feeling/looking so I replaced with "name brand" parts. It hasn't missed a beat.
now im again in the market for a Mig and figured I would give everlast a shot due to my experience with them.
Question s are how are the gun/ground? I don't really wanna have to upgrade again.
What can be had for $1000?(with the black friday discount)
The ideal mig unit would be 250 amps (the most amps you can suck out of a 50 amp breaker) with a spool gun and does stick welding, problem is nobody makes such a unit, so the next best thing IMO is the Imig 205 or the Imig 205P with a spool gun. they do decent stick, the spool gun is a real beefy unit and I can get by on a 200 amp mig, That's why I have two Imig 205's (i garage, 1 shop). The Imig 205 gun and cable is beefy, well built and will last a long time, the unit has done me well and I like the stick welding on it. If you can get a spool gun and an Imig 205 or 205P for the kinda money you are taking about, you will do well.
Our MIG products are really top quality. The ground clamp will be the same style, so you can change the clamp if it bothers you. The torches are good name brand torches (Binzel, Trafimet) and rated for the max amps as well. The contact tips and nozzles are standard MIG parts that can be had from your LWS.
There are less consumables with the MIG. I have the IMIG-200 and IMIG-250P myself, both are many years old. Used many times a week, no complaints here, still on the original Binzel torches. I also have a number of shops local with trafimet torches as well that are 3-4 years old still running strong.
I myself would not go less than 200 amps for MIG welding and wanting to get it all in one purchase, though the smaller units will work fine for small shop use. We use the IMIG-200 more than the 250P, but when the power is needed, we roll it around. I can not see anyone not happy with the IMIG-205.
So what would the 200 and 250 cost? Are black friday discounts still available? What about bot equipped with the spool gun?

I have an I-MIG 200, I'd recommend it highly. the torch is good, the ground sucks (sorry guys), so plan on replacing it. I'm using a $12 solid brass one from the LWS, it had a slightly softer spring which makes it easier to get around pipe.
