A recommendation for Everlast.....fix your manuals!

So I'm a complete noob when it comes to TIG. Did my research and decided that a reasonable entry level machine is the 250EX. Purchased it and waited the "standard" 7-8 weeks for it to arrive. Seems to be in good shape although I haven't powered it up yet.

My suggestion to Everlast however, is to spend a few weeks and get the accompanying manual to look a bit more professional. We all see how much these import machines get bashed elsewhere and they are not helping their case with a manual that reminds me of something I get from Harbor Freight. My MIG manual from Miller was around 45 pages and very informative. This one is a joke. With heading titles like "IV. Description of the Erection" and "V. Sketch Sketch the Panel Function" and many other Chinglish phrases. This doesn't help your cause in convincing folks these machines are "the real deal" so to speak.

Just meant for this to be a friendly bit of input.

Maybe you have missed the multiple threads instructing customers to download the manuals online from the website...or the BIG RED button on the top of every page of the website, OR the link to it under the resources tab on every page, but we have our manuals posted online, for all to download that is are no doubt an improvement over the manual in the box.

I like the on line manuals. They seem to have about 99% of all info I need. Plus it is fast and if I need to, I can print all or part of it out.

Since the welders are made to order, why not leave out the useless manual that comes in the box and put a sticker on the welder with web address to the pdf manual ? Attachment 3884 :)

Well there are requirements, I believe for that kind of thing, and what's in the box satisfies that....Its not entirely useless, as it does provide basic specs and gives a wiring diagram.

Here's how I see it.

I agree that the in box manuals suck.

The on line manuals have all the information you could expect and then some.
But the Ace in the hole as I see it is being able to get up with any or all of three service / tech / real welders, in Mark, Mike, and Ray. To me that is a way better deal than any 100 page manual in full color with an index ;)

The one thing I would like to see is a set-up chart similar to what Hobart has inside the door of their 135 that I had. I printed out my own but for folks new to welding, like me, it would be a nice item.

Yes the paper manuals aren't much and "Description of Erection" turned out to be a major disappointment, however I always find a way to misplace the manual within the first week of any new purchase.

Having good manuals online has turned out to be the best way for disorganized people like me.

Oh I saw the online manual alright....before I ever purchased in fact. But to someone just buying and opening the box, it's a real turn-off. How hard would it be for you to put the manual in the box? Remember, this is just some hopefully constructive feedback for you in the event you wish to improve the image of Everlast.

It seems like it would be easy enough to just have them print the nice PDF manuals at the factory and throw them in the box instead of the ones that are included now.

I actually like the included manual.. not exclusively, but as a supplement.

Its easier to update and keep the manuals updated when and if there are any updates. Any change in process creates larger problems.

Mark, Will there ever be an addendum to the PowerUltra manual to cover the PowerUltra 205P ("P" the pulse function of the machine)?

Eventually, I guess, but its just a switch...no difference at all other than that...But it will be when we split the ultras from the pros and put into separate manuals...People have a hard time with reading comprehension and aren't able to separate the information on the two for themselves. So we have to put them into separate manuals.

Well except for the arbitrary values that were set for the switch positions. Those are what I don't know. What exactly is "Low" in numbers and what is "High" in numbers. "Off" I can figure that one out. ;)
