FCAW and SMAW over the weekend.

Well this is my latest welding project... 7" long each blade is 2" Wide and 1/8" thick.
Attachment 3575First I put two pieces together. Attachment 3576 Then I tacked them.
Attachment 3577 Then I tacked the third one on the opposite side.
Attachment 3578 Then I ground the two original tacks off.
Attachment 3579 Then I tacked the fourth one on and welded it...

The weld is about 4" long and it has a root pass and a cover pass.

The spatter is from the FCAW below it... The wire welder Isn't working right. The wire was pulsing. I think it's the tip.


Btw, my favorite position is the "monkey squat" lol. :mad: :D

your first 13 pictures aren't displaying.

what I see looks good. the last 5 pics are a little hot, the toes are undercut a bit on the top. it could be a gun angle thing, though, as the bottom toe doesn't seem to be undercut at all. if you have access to MIG gear, I'd recommend practicing your uniformity and ripple spacing with MIG, as you can see what you're doing. welding FCAW, you're sortof flying blind because of how little of the puddle you can see under the flux. I have a habit of doing cursive 'e's at a speed that actually makes them more like this _/_/_/_/_/_ as you move across the piece, which while not ideal in all situations makes a nice uniform looking weld(except for vert. up).

unless you have your spacing down pat, FCAW can be difficult to keep even spacing because of the limited visibility.

Ja I know... I was having trouble getting it to work and apparently you can only attach 10 pics.
And that's what I've been doing (cursive e). No, I don't have access to a mig... I'm trying to save up for the I MIG 200... Still a ways off.
