And another welding cart and my babies....

Here's a couple of photos of my welding cart and my welding equipment. The cart uses wheels from Tractor Supply and holds two 125 cft tanks, my PowerPlasma 50, a Powertig 250EX and a Hobart Handler 210. The gas welder is a Cobra 2000 (aka Henrob) and I love all of them.

I am going to modify the cart soon to accept a home made tig torch cooler and a rack for holding tig and welding rods. Also going to add a tool box to hold misc stuff like consumables and such. Also going to add another mount for a small helium tank for mixing with argon to weld aluminum better.

I think I'm pretty well set for now as far as equipment goes. I have had my eye on a little spot welder that Harbor Freight has and I also have been looking at pulse mig and if Everlast ever decides to make one, I might just get one. Hint Hint!

I tried the Powerplasma 50 first and found it to be a great machine. So I decided to get the Powertig 250EX. The only regret on getting the Powertig 250EX was that I should have gotten it sooner.

I'd never heard of the Henrob Cobra 2000 torch- went to their website and it looks very interesting. This from their site:

"Independant tests on aluminum and stainless steel verify weld strength equal to Tig welds. The low oxygen content of the secondary flame also minimizes the need for flux. In fact, many operations require no flux at all. As a result, weld operation and post weld cleaning requirements are minimal."

No flux at all! Intriguing to say the least. Steve, have you been able to get these kinds of results?

I've been looking at a Henrob for years. The price always stops me at the last minute. Very neat unit though, and I prefer inert gas over others too these days. There are also some neat plasma technologies out there, but again, the price.

Maybe one day HF will clone one. Their double cut saw is great.

Yes I have had some very good results with the Cobra torch. I can braze with no flux although welding stainless steel tubing still requires argon inside the tube to prevent sugaring.

I've welded aluminum with it and it requires an aluminum flux. The flame is very soft and hot so it welds thin aluminum really well without blowing through it. The flame has a different look to it...very concentrated. Supposedly the Cobra torch mixes the oxygen and acetylene inside the torch and so the flame is roughly 900 degrees hotter than a standard torch. But the heat is so concentrated that the heat affected zone is really small.

It welds everything except titanium. It does really well with cast iron. Aluminum and stainless steel requires practice just like tigging. It uses only 5 psi in both oxygen and acetylene so gas use is way less than a standard torch.

It is fantastic for auto body work. The smallest torch tip is great for thin steel and welds made with it are very ductile so they can be hammered as well as a tig weld. It can be used in the wind with no problem so it has that over a tig. I do prefer tig for heavier welding but the Cobra 2000 aka Henrob is a torch that I use quite a bit. I prefer it although some think it is too heavy or strange to hold. I love it.

By the way, it appeared in the movie "The Green Hornet" when it was used to cut off the head of a metal statue. It cuts almost as good as a plasma cutter with its cutter attachment. Don Garlits uses the Cobra torch and so does Jesse James. Lots of old time auto restorers use the Henrob exclusively. It does take some getting used to if you are used to using an old style torch. It is different and some love it while others just can't seem to adjust to its differences.

Very Nice, I found out that an 250EX just barely fits on a HF cart ( needed something to get going). I like how strong and Practical your cart is. No frills just does what its supposed to do :).

I found an abandoned shopping cart up the street with no ownership or store markings on it at all. It has a nice base and Great Potential, look for a thread on that soon.

I would do something Like what you did but My pops Just told me no more floor space ( I'm starting to overtake him haha, and it's his shop :D

Anyway great job on a very practical and functional cart. I got a few Ideas from looking at it that I may be able to incorporate into mine (twin bottle for sure, Didnt Think of that before... :)

Nice cart and I am building one for my toys also. Good move extending the wheels beyond the outside of the cart to aid in stability and I plan to include drawer under the top shelf to hold all those extra parts and consumables. It's nice to hear good comments about your PP50. I should take delivery of one next Tuesday.
