Problem with foot pedal on LX 225

I received my Everlast LX 225 welder a few days ago and have an issue with
the foot pedal. It has a reverse effect when using. If I set the amps on the panel at 50A as soon as I start the machine with the foot pedal the amps jump to 100A then will rise with more foot pedal then go back down with full foot pedal.

The following are reading with different amp settings:

What I dont understand is if I set Amps on the machine at 100 how could the foot pedal go higher than 100.

Anyone have this problem (The trigger on the torch works fine)

Turn your upslope off. Are you using it in 2T?

Yes. Upslope in off and using 2t.

Has the rack slipped on the pinion? I had this happen the other day. The result was a bit different than you are experiencing though.

On my pedal, the rack moved away from the pinion on the return stroke. The result was it only turned the pinion part way back to it's zero position. Now with the pedal fully up, the pinion is turned to where it should be with the pedal pushed part way down, so the starting amps are higher than they should be. This kept happening until the foot off the pedal starting amps were so high that I could not control the puddle.

By flexing the rack away from the pinion I rolled the pinion back to it's proper starting location against the internal stop on the POT. A little tweaking of the rack and tightening of the holding screw got things working properly again.

I got your message, but could not make out the number. Ray or Mike though would be best to answer this question. Its possibly a bad pot.

I'm having problems with my 225 foot pedal and curious about different solutions.

Foot pedal Problem is now fixed! Works like a champ.

Mike sent me a (4053) chip, couple of diodes and a capacitor.
Replaced the parts and now the (Herman Monster) foot pedal works properly.

Gee, I never looked at the read-out while I was welding so I don't know what the amps are. One thing is, when I try to start, it will buzz. Then when I look at the read-out it will usually say 13 or 14 amps and won't fire til the amps read what I dialed it to. It's a little different than your issue. I kinda thought it was normal to have to wait for the TIG to 'catch up'. Is your's doing anything like that??

I only looked at the read out because of the problem.
As far as waiting for the TIG to catch up, I don't have that problem.
The foot pedal operation is normal.
Maybe your up slope is messed up?

I have upslope off. It shows 14 amps after I stop welding and it won't start(only buzzes) unless I wait til the amps go back to the setting.

14 amps sounds about right. The unit will reflect the welding current last used for a short period of time. With the foot pedal, this would be normal. As for the other, what you describe does sound weird.
