Intermittent operation
Greetings
Just cut some .070 stainless steel with my new PP205. I guessed at the settings based on my search of the forum as I haven't yet found any tables or charts that give settings based on material/thickness. Are there any?
I set the amps at 40 and the air pressure at 60. The torch would cut for a few feet and then go out. I kept the switch depressed and in a second or three it would fire up and cut like a champ and then go out again. Any ideas?
Thanks, Richard

Richard,
You'll only need the minimum to cut that, about 20-25 amps. The arc sounds like it is blowing out. Have you checked the swirl ring? Also if you air pressure is fluctuating...ie. pancake compressor then this can cause it as well. You need a minimum of 20 gallon reserve and about 5 gpm for best results. Also sometimes the little spring inside the torch head is a little sticky at first. It will usually resolve itself with a little use or after a change in consumables. There are several possible causes. Give us a call if it doesn't clear up once the above mentioned is checked in the previous posts. Good advice given.

Richard I am having the same problem, however when the arc goes out I hear a popping sound then it starts up again. Did you get resolution to the starting and stiopping of your arc? What did you do?
Thanks.
