7014 is great stuff
Or at least forgiving for the beginner. I made some fairly pretty welds today... well, in comparison to my 6011 attempts that is. No weld pics, my self image couldn't stand the abuse.
Here's a pic of the end product. A hiller/bedder for my garden tractor. A buddy welded up the T frame a few weeks ago with this 110v mig and I finished up the brackets and attach points with the PA200 today. --Ian

I learned how to stick weld with 7014s. They don't care about polarity and work well with AC. If you run a good bead, the slag will curl off as the weld cools. They also run pretty good at lower-than-rated amp settings.

The box said 120-145 and I was running 110. I read someplace that DC was about 10 or 15% hotter than AC so I figured I was effectively at about the starting amps.

I would get good results with 90 amps dcep or dcen. My cheap HF stick welder could only muster 90 amps.
