IGBT Question. Couldn't believe what I just saw

So, I ran across a deal on a used Plasma cutter from one of the big guys, so even though I still have full intention on buying EVERLAST, I went ahead and looked up the owner's manual on line, the intent being to see what the output was, and if the machine had pilot arc or not. So as I'm paging through the manual, I run across the section on IGBT handling and replacement. Whaaaat? As I said this Is a major manufacturer, and knowing roughly what the cost of an IGBT module is, I found it hard to believe. That would be like reaching into the glovebox of your new car and reading up on how to remove and replace the engine. Needless to say, I just got done looking at the EVERLAST manual, no IGBT replacement section. Does that mean that failure is less likely? I'm thinking that's a safe bet, just looking for confirmation. Thanks

Chances are it's an early IGBT module, they have since had more than one evolution since then. If you want to know about IGBT's read this article

Should the IGBT module fail, some of our units have user replaceable modules as well. Not worth mentioning in the manual as this is very rare. On the 250EX and PP256 it is 5 screws and 3 wires and some thermal transfer grease.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that this "biggie" in the welding industry has the need to include those instructions in their initial documents to the customer, whereas EVERLAST does not. I'm a real believer in your product, even though I have yet to take delivery on my first unit (I will be posting a thread on that subject shortly). That being said, it's good to know that in the unlikely event of a IGBT failure in one of your units, the user is able to replace it himself.

We have gradually evolved the changeout of the modules. It will continue to evolve I am sure. Right now it is pretty simple...I am not up to date on the latest version, but the last one I had my hands in, I believe had a couple of quick desolder points were necessary. But what does soldering a component mean to a person that's a welder?

It is my understanding now that the big blue company builds them into their boards on some units...not exactly user friendly and for a price of 1200.00 bucks you can have a new one.
