Need help picking out a plasma cutter.
Hey guys, I will be needing a plasma cutter in the near future, and the way it looks, might be a split purchase between me and my brother (hooda). We're 2 very different people, with different lives and interests, but we both see our dad at his old shop in Blaine on a regular basis.(hooda is currently staying about 30 miles away from me). Our dad has bought a place real close to where I live, and he needs to move what he has left of our excavating business to the new place. We have determined that to make the move easier, we will break down much of the old equipment that's not worth selling into scrap, and the big light went on that it would be a perfect way to test out the one of the everlast plasma cutters. This will involve breaking down old trtailers, tanks, pipes, brackets, trucks, truck bodies, all kinds of serious metal. We have good air and 220/230 electric at 60 amps. would the smaller one do the job? The bigger one? pleasse feel free to give your US.02. PS I think I may have stolen someone's thunder:D:D:D
Will a 60 work well on a torchmate?
Yes, someone has stolen my thunder. But I still have questions. I can tell that having little bro here will prove to be interesting (we're on different schedules so we don't get to see each other that often). But anyway, after we finish helping dad with the move, I've been looking at ways to capitalize on this investment. I watch a bit of cable TV, and the commercials for the torchmate tables spark some interest in a way to further justify the investment. We have a brother-in-law that has access to a thermal arc plasma cutter, but I believe that it's only a 39 amp unit. I already ran tha Idea by my dad that we'll probably need more beef than the 39 amp unit has, and of course he poo-poo's any idea that involves opening up the wallet, so if we go this route, we're on our own. I haven't spoken to Mikey about this yet, but I think that that added versatility of being torchmate compatible will reinforce my argument for investing in the new unit.
Will it be easy to switch back and forth?
This sounds exactly like what we're looking for. I guess the next question would be will it be easy to go from CNC mode to manual mode? If not, it's not a deal breaker by any means, just curious.
